Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Floor lamp

Sculpture first. Then the light.

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A lamp that earns its corner even when the light is off.

The twisted base is carved by hand from a solid teak blank, following the movement already in the grain rather than forcing a straight line through it. It is heavy stock on purpose — the heft is what keeps a floor lamp planted — and the finish is rubbed oil, so a scuff from the vacuum sands out at home in minutes.

Most bedroom corners get a metal pole with a shade on it. This one gets a piece of carving that spent twenty days in a controlled kiln before shaping, so the spiral holds sound when the furnace runs all January. By day it keeps the corner as sculpture; by night it is the glow the room winds down under — yours, and nobody else's.

  • Warm, low light sized for bedrooms and reading corners
  • Carved teak base holds the corner even switched off
  • Fabric shade softens the glow for wind-down hours
  • Weighted base stands steady on rugs and carpet
  • Arrives fully wired with the bulb included

It fits real homes.

Twenty pages down

Twenty pages down

Ten forty on a weeknight, overheads off, one warm circle of light on the paperback. The spiral throws a slow shadow up the wall while the house settles around it.

Dark January mornings

Dark January mornings

Six a.m. in a Minneapolis January, windows still black. The lamp comes on before anything else — a warm pool to dress by while the coffee maker gurgles down the hall.

The rental fix

The rental fix

Fourth apartment in six years, landlord-beige walls and one harsh ceiling fixture. The lamp lands in the corner, clicks on, and the room starts being theirs within the hour.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight teak grain follows the twist from floor to socket, and under the shade's glow the figure reads calm — the carved movement does the talking while the wood keeps its voice low.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into every turn, and in lamplight the spiral shows a low satin sheen — smooth as a stair rail under a trailing finger.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

Teak gives the base real standing weight — bump it with a hip in the dark and it is you who moves — planted on rug or carpet, steady through furnace-dry Januarys without ever developing a lean.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Kept indoors, the gold slowly deepens rather than silvering — teak needs outdoor sun and rain to grey. A light sanding and a wipe of oil revive the warmth anytime.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Blanks are pulled one at a time for the twist — lively, sound grain with enough mass to stand steady, graded by eyes with thirty years at the stacks. Checked wood never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The spiral is roughed out on the bandsaw slightly proud of its final line, leaving material for the handwork that gives each turn its even flow.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Every curve of the twist is sanded by hand through five grits until a palm can ride the spiral top to bottom without catching.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker wires the socket, stands the lamp on a flat bench, and checks stance and finish before it is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the lamps made and wired?
Each base is shaped from solid wood, wired with UL-listed components for US outlets, and finished in hand-rubbed oil rather than a sprayed film — so the surface you dust for the next decade is wood, and a mark sands out at home.
Can I adjust the height or shade?
Base height and shade pairing can be adjusted when you order — a taller build to clear a chair arm, a compact one for a small bedroom. Send the corner's measurements and we will match the proportions to the spot.
What bulb does it take?
The lamp arrives fully wired with a bulb already included. A power plug is not attached, so you fit one compatible with your local outlet — a quick job with a standard hardware-store plug, or a five-minute stop for your electrician.
Any care advice?
Dust the base with a dry cloth and give the twist a wipe of oil once a year to keep it rich. Keep it a couple of feet from heat vents and radiators — steady one-sided heat is the only thing solid wood minds.
How do lamps ship?
Made to order and packed in a foam-fitted box, with the shade boxed separately when included. If the carton arrives crushed, photograph it and tell us — we make it right. Tracking goes out the day it ships.
