Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Handcrafted solid wood · Floating desk

A floating desk that clears the floor

The piece

The office is a wall now.

Five years into working from home, most houses still have no room to give up — the guest room stayed a guest room, the dining table kept getting borrowed at nine and cleared at six. This desk takes the one space every room has left: a wall. Full working depth, zero square feet of floor.

Because it is made to order, the floating desk mounts at your height — sitting, standing, or somewhere between — in the home office you actually have: the hallway nook, the bedroom corner, the six feet behind the sofa. The chair tucks fully under, the vacuum runs straight through, and the room keeps its first job.

  • Mounts at sitting, standing, or kid height — set before it ships
  • Chair tucks fully under; nothing below but clean floor
  • Steel cleat lags into two studs; hardware and template included
  • Full-thickness solid teak — no honeycomb core, no drum sound
  • Robot vacuums run straight under, mid-workday

It fits real homes.

8:58, camera on

Tuesday, 8:58 a.m., the meeting link already open. Behind the laptop: clean wall, warm grain, nothing to apologize for on camera. A coworker asks about the wood before the agenda starts — the desk is the backdrop, and the backdrop is winning.

Ten past four, backpack down

Ten past four, backpack dropped at the door, long division spread across the oiled top. A kid who negotiates every minute at the kitchen table sits here without argument — a real desk, their name on the homework, the wall to themselves.

Tax week, contained

The second week of April, the folder migration begins. W-2s, receipts, the one 1099 that always hides. For six evenings the desk holds the whole season in two neat piles, and the dining table never hears about it.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order, and dimensions vary from one to the next. Need a different size for your space? Tell us your measurements and we'll build it to fit.

Teak, up close.

The grain

Honey and amber bands run the length of each plank. No two boards repeat, so your piece is the only one with this pattern.

The oils

Teak grows its own protective oils, and they carry the wood through dry winters and humid summers that crack lesser boards. Spills just need wiping up promptly.

The weight

Lift a corner and you feel dense, solid stock with no hollow frames or fillers. Kiln-dried before the build, it sits flat and stays put, even when the heat comes on.

The years ahead

Teak deepens toward a richer brown as it lives with you. A wipe of teak oil twice a year holds the tone you chose.

From plank to piece.

Select

Planks graded by practiced eyes, then kiln-dried slowly until they settle.

Mill

Each board cut, squared, and matched to the pattern.

Shape

Joined and eased with hand tools after the machines have done the rough work.

Finish

Sanded fine, then oiled until the grain reads deep.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What exactly is a floating desk?
Each floating desk is a solid-wood worksurface with an integrated hanging system — no legs, no frame, just a plank thick enough to hold a full workday without flexing.
Can I choose the size and add cable slots?
Yes — width and depth are cut to order. A 36-inch desk suits a hallway nook; a 60-inch run handles dual monitors. Cable slots can be added wherever you want them.
How strong is the wall mount?
The desk hangs on a concealed steel cleat with included hardware, anchored into at least two studs. Once mounted, it holds far more than a desk setup ever will.
What maintenance is involved?
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth, use a pad under heavy daily writing, and re-oil yearly. Check the mounting screws once a year as the seasons move the wood.
How does it arrive?
Floating desks are made to order and ship flat in heavily padded cartons with cleat and template included. Tracking follows the box from the workshop to your door.
How does it mount, and what if I rent?
It hangs on a steel cleat lagged into at least two wall studs — hardware, template, and a placement guide ship in the crate, and the install runs about thirty minutes with a drill and a level. Drywall anchors alone are not part of the plan; a desk takes elbows, not just objects. Renters: two stud holes patch with one pass of spackle on move-out day, and the desk goes with you.
How much weight can a floating desk actually hold?
Mounted into studs as directed, it carries a real working load — monitor, laptop, a stack of books, your forearms — with margin to spare. The honest limit: keep sustained loads under roughly fifty pounds and never sit or stand on it, because the failure point of any wall-mounted piece is the wall, not the teak. If your wall is plaster, masonry, or otherwise unusual, send a photo to support@timbervintique.com before you drill.
