These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

The piece

A single teak beam, floating above the table.

The design is one long line: a solid teak beam on minimal cords, a warm light running its underside. Each blank is chosen for straight grain and dried three slow weeks in the kiln, because a beam hanging at eye level over dinner has nowhere to hide a twist. Then it is shaped, oiled, and wired by hand.

Most dining rooms inherit a builder-grade fixture and live with it for years. This one drops the light to where people actually sit, shields the bulb from seated eyes, and gives the table a center of gravity. The grain reads differently from every chair, and the room stops needing its overhead lights at all.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the beam end to end — selected that way, because at eye height over a table any twist would show. From below, the figure reads like a single drawn line.

The finish nature applied

Teak's own oils meet hand-rubbed coats on every face. Under its own downlight the satin surface warms instead of glaring, and up close the wood smells faintly sweet and leathery — the scent wood-ID guides use to spot real teak.

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with seasonal movement about half that of oak, the beam hangs straight through furnace winters and humid Augusts alike — no slow bow over the table.

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the beam will not silver — that takes outdoor sun and rain. Expect it to deepen slightly toward caramel in its first months, then settle; a wipe of oil brings the glow back whenever it looks thirsty.

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

Beam blanks are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the stacks — straight grain only, since a ceiling piece is judged from below. Stock with twist or checks never hangs over a table.

The shaping process

The beam is milled square, then trued face by face with a hand plane, the channel for the light routed along the underside before final shaping.

The hand refinement

Faces and edges are sanded through five grits until the underside channel seats the light cleanly and every long edge feels soft to a passing hand.

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker wires and burns in the light, levels the beam on its cords, and checks the finish under a raking lamp before sign-off.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

Questions customers usually ask

Does it mount to the ceiling?

Yes. The beam hangs from a canopy over a standard junction box on minimal cords, with a warm light running its underside so seated eyes get glow, not glare. Every bit of mounting hardware for the piece ships in the box, ready to center over a table or island.

Is it hardwired or plug-in?

The listing states which, and it is confirmed before shipping. The wiring is done to US standards. For a hardwired beam, a licensed electrician is the safe way to tie it into the ceiling box — a clean, switch-controlled install with no cord trailing to an outlet.

Does it come with a bulb, and what kind?

Yes — the bulb type is noted on the listing, and the beam ships with the bulb seated in its routed underside channel, most often a warm Edison or LED. The light runs cool, so it neither glares in seated eyes nor dries the wood it sits against.

Can the drop height be changed?

The cords adjust at installation to set the drop over the table, and beam length can be adjusted when you order. Measure your table and tell us the ceiling height, and we will match both the length and the hanging height to the room.
