Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Ceiling swing

The chair that never sits still

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

The one chair in the house that moves.

The designers shaped this swing as one clean plank with a natural edge, sized for a living-room ceiling rather than a porch. An artisan selects the teak for straight, structural grain — no short grain near the hanging points — then sands it smooth enough for bare legs and fits rated stainless hardware. The honest part is the mounting: it needs a joist, not drywall, and we say so up front.

Living rooms fill up with seating nobody fights over. Hang one seat from the ceiling and that changes — guests drift to it first, kids negotiate turns, and the room stops taking itself so seriously. The teak was chosen for the traffic: dense enough for an adult's full weight, oiled so ten thousand sits polish the seat instead of wearing it out.

  • Rated stainless hardware for joist or beam mounting
  • Hand-sanded for bare legs — no snags, no splinters
  • Indoors year-round; covered porch in summer
  • Seat width and rope length cut to your ceiling
  • Holds an adult's full weight without complaint

It fits real homes.

Rain on the glass

Rain on the glass

A gray Saturday in March, a novel, the slow drift of the swing by the window and the small creak of rope settling. The rain does its work outside; you do absolutely nothing inside.

One more turn

One more turn

A six-year-old twists the ropes tight, lifts her feet, and spins loose, laughing. The seat logs more flight hours with kids than anyone planned for — the hardware was rated for far worse.

August, porch shift

August, porch shift

Summer moves the swing out to the covered porch, where humid air swells lesser wood and sticks lesser joints. The teak just deepens a shade and keeps swinging until the season turns.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the full length of the seat plank with no short grain near the hanging points — in a seat that carries weight in the air, the grain is the structure.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the seat, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin that stays smooth under bare legs and never turns tacky in July humidity.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, dried through three slow weeks in the kiln, the seat carries an adult's full weight without complaint through every season the house throws at it.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors, the seat keeps its gold with a yearly oiling. On a porch it may drift toward silver-grey — a paper-thin surface change; a light sanding and fresh oil bring it back anytime.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Seat planks are chosen one at a time for straight grain and structural soundness, then sighted down their length for twist. A seat that hangs from a ceiling allows no compromises.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The seat's line and natural edge are traced from templates, then cut slightly proud — leaving material for the handwork that follows.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The seat and edges pass through five grades of sandpaper by hand until the surface feels right against bare skin, not just an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker hangs the swing from the shop beam, sits in it, and checks every hanging point before it leaves the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What are the swing seats made of?
Swing seats in this collection are solid teak or hardwood — one plank, chosen for straight structural grain, sanded smooth for bare skin — with rated stainless hanging hardware. Dense wood and real hardware are what make a hanging seat boring, in the best way.
What sizes and rope lengths are available?
Seats are built to order in single, two-person, and porch-bed widths. Rope or chain length is cut to your ceiling or beam height at the time you order.
What can I safely hang it from?
Hanging hardware is included and rated far beyond the posted capacity, but the structure matters most: anchor into a joist, beam, or healthy limb — never decking or drywall.
Can it really hang from a living-room ceiling?
Yes — this design is made for indoor mounting. Locate a ceiling joist or install blocking between joists, anchor the included hardware into that structure, and leave a couple of feet of swing clearance front and back.
How is a swing shipped?
Each swing is made to order and ships boxed with the seat, rope or chain, and all hardware packed together — every swing is load-tested on the shop beam before it goes in the box. Tracking is sent the day it leaves.
