Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Writing desk

The desk that retires the kitchen table

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A workspace that earns its calm, one drawer at a time.

The proportions came first: a top wide enough for a laptop and an open notebook, over a gently curved base and a drawer unit. It is teak through the full thickness — no veneer skin to chip through, no particleboard core to sag mid-lease — sanded through five grits and rubbed with an oil finish you can renew at the desk itself.

Three years of working off the kitchen table teaches you what a desk is for: a fixed address for the workday, drawers that swallow chargers at five o'clock. The boards spent twenty days in a temperature-controlled kiln before the first cut, so the top stays flat under your forearms through furnace season — and the whole piece arrives smelling like wood, not chemicals.

  • Holds a laptop, monitor, and open notebook with writing room left
  • Drawers clear chargers and paperwork so five o'clock actually ends
  • Open curved base leaves knee room for any office chair
  • Scratches spot-sand and re-oil at home in ten minutes
  • Sized for bedroom corners, spare rooms, and stair landings

It fits real homes.

The 8:58 sign-on

The 8:58 sign-on

Tuesday, 8:58, two minutes before standup. The laptop opens on oiled teak instead of a cleared corner of the kitchen table, yesterday's notes wait in the top drawer, and the camera background finally looks like a decision instead of an apology.

Five o'clock, drawer shut

Five o'clock, drawer shut

Friday, 5:04. Laptop and charger slide into the drawer, and the soft knock of teak on teak closes the office. In a one-bedroom where work and dinner share the same sixty square feet, that small click is the commute.

Sunday, off the clock

Sunday, off the clock

The second Sunday of April. Receipts sort into piles across the full width of the top, the calculator stays out past dinner, and the coffee ring from hour three wipes off the oiled surface without leaving a ghost.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the full length of the desktop — a calm figure that will not shout behind you on camera, and catches low winter sun through a south window without a single loud stripe.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils; we hand-rub more into the top and drawer fronts. Under a desk lamp the sheen reads satin, never gloss, and the surface smells faintly of wood on day one — no lacquer, nothing to off-gas.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with seasonal movement about half that of oak, the top holds flat when forced-air heat drops indoor humidity to 15 to 25 percent in January. The boards leave the kiln at equilibrium, so the wood does its settling before it reaches your room.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

In a normal room teak simply deepens toward honey; silver-grey takes outdoor sun and rain. If a bright window lightens one edge over the years, a light sanding and fresh oil even the tone in an afternoon.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Teak boards are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks, matched by tone across top, drawers, and base. Twisted or dull stock never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The curved base and drawer unit are traced from workshop templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the pencil line — the extra sixteenth of an inch belongs to the handwork ahead.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The desktop and drawer edges are sanded through five grits until they feel right against an open palm, not merely look right — the pass no machine replaces.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker cycles every drawer, checks level on a flat bench, and rakes a lamp across the finish before the desk leaves the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What kind of wood are the desks built with?
Solid wood through the full thickness of the top — no veneer to sand through, no particleboard core, no formaldehyde-based glue anywhere in the piece. That is why a worn desktop can be refinished at home for decades instead of replaced, and why the desk reads heavy on arrival.
Can I customize dimensions or add cable management?
Each desk is built after you order, so width, depth, and height adjust to your room and chair. Standing-height builds and cable grommets can be added when you order — measure your monitor arm and your chair's armrests first, and we build to those numbers.
How hard is assembly?
The desk ships separated into top, curved base, and drawer unit so nothing arrives cracked, and bolts together with the included hardware and key in about twenty minutes for one person. The joinery was cut and fitted at the workshop — you are reuniting it, not building it. No wordless diagrams, no leftover screw.
How should I treat the worksurface?
Wipe with a damp cloth and re-oil once or twice a year, when the surface looks thirsty — about twenty minutes. A scratch from a stapler spot-sands and re-oils in ten; an oil finish fails gracefully where a film finish fails in sheets.
How does a desk arrive?
Made to order, with the top and base packed in separate padded cartons, corners blocked, hardware bagged to the frame. Photograph the boxes before the driver leaves and note anything on the receipt — if damage got through, we make it right.
