Natural grain. Finished by hand.

The form of this desk is shaped by natural grain, then its visible wood surfaces are refined and finished by hand.

Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid walnut · Writing desk

Five feet of walnut to work on

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

The desk that makes the workday feel chosen.

Fifty-nine inches of solid walnut with a live edge, standing at a proper thirty-inch writing height — solid boards, not a walnut-print laminate that peels at the mouse-worn corner. The designer balanced mid-century lines against the width a real workday needs; the artisan matches the boards for chocolate tone and figure, shapes the edge by hand, and oils the top to a soft luster.

A desk is a piece you touch every working hour, which is exactly why a real one pays for itself — a flat-pack desk replaced twice in a decade costs the same money for a worse decade. Colleagues on video calls ask about the wood behind your keyboard; family walking past see someone at a real desk, doing real work. Ten years of mornings will only deepen the color.

  • Fifty-nine-inch top seats dual monitors with room to write
  • Thirty-inch height suits a standard task chair
  • Solid walnut shrugs off keyboards, mugs, and deadlines
  • Live edge keeps the workspace from looking like an office
  • As at home in a study corner as an office

It fits real homes.

The 8:58 sit-down

The 8:58 sit-down

Laptop, second monitor, coffee, notebook — all of it on the walnut with elbow room left over. The day starts on a clear surface instead of a shuffle, and the live edge under a forearm reads calm on the video call behind you.

Homework at the far end

Homework at the far end

After school the fourth grader claims the other half of the fifty-nine inches. Two people, two projects, one desk — and the multiplication tables get supervised without anyone leaving their seat or clearing the grown-up's stack.

The ten p.m. chapter

The ten p.m. chapter

House quiet, one lamp on, the live edge catching the light at the desk's rim. Whatever the project is — the novel, the night class, the small business — this is the surface where it moves forward, mug ring and all wiping clean.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order, and dimensions vary from one to the next. Need a different size for your space? Tell us your measurements and we'll build it to fit.

Teak, up close.

No two boards alike

Straight grain broken by curls, waves, and darker mineral streaks runs across the desktop — chocolate tones that come from the tree itself, never from a stain, shifting under the desk lamp as you move.

No two boards alike

A hand-rubbed depth

A simple oil finish is all the walnut top asks. It polishes to a smooth, lustrous depth that pulls a hand across the worksurface almost involuntarily, cool and satin under the wrist through a long day.

Gunstock toughness

At about 1,010 on the Janka scale, the desktop absorbs the daily knocks of keyboards, mugs, and dropped staplers without turning brittle — and twenty kiln-dried days mean it will not check when winter heat dries the office air.

Mellows, never fades

The walnut top settles into a warmer, more personal patina with each year of light and work, growing softer in tone rather than tired — kept a couple of feet from the heat vent, it holds flat and true.

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Walnut boards are matched by tone and figure across the five-foot top. Stock with twist, checks, or dull grain never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The top is dimensioned slightly proud of the line, the live edge traced and preserved, the base laid out for a level thirty-inch height.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The worksurface and edges are sanded through successive grits until forearms can rest against them comfortably through a full day's work.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks flatness, level, and finish before the desk is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What does 'traditional' mean in this build?
This collection's desks are built the old way: solid-wood tops on paneled or turned bases, drawers on wooden runners, every surface finished by hand rather than sprayed on a line.
Can the desk be built to my room?
Yes — each desk is made to order. Width, depth, and drawer configuration adjust to your room and work, and the finish tone can be matched to existing furniture from photos.
How does assembly work?
Most desks arrive in two parts — top and base — joining with pre-fitted bolts in about twenty minutes. Drawers come fitted, waxed, and ready to slide.
How do I care for a working desk?
A desk pad protects the writing area if you want it pristine; a damp cloth and a yearly wipe of oil handle the rest. No film to scratch through, so a mug ring lifts with a cloth and a warm dry iron. Wooden drawer runners like an occasional paraffin rub.
How is it delivered?
Each desk is made to order and shipped freight-crated, top and base cradled separately, hardware bagged in a drawer. Photograph the crate before the driver leaves and note any damage on the receipt; a tracking number and delivery window come ahead of time.
What size is this desk, and what wood options are there?
The standard build is 59 inches wide at a 30-inch working height — comfortable for two monitors or a monitor plus an open notebook. It is offered in walnut, oak, or teak; walnut is the signature build, with its chocolate tone coming from the tree rather than a stain.
