Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Hand-carved teak · Wall sculpture

Sixteen inches of carved tide

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A wall piece carved until the wood seems to move.

The carver works the folds by hand, following a drawn rhythm until the panel reads like a tide caught mid-turn. The board underneath earned the job first — straight-grained teak, kiln-dried across twenty days, because a carved panel this thin either dries flat or cups on your wall. Charcoal-stained edges frame the gold, and the hidden mount was part of the first sketch.

Most wall decor is a print of texture; this is the texture, cut deep enough to throw real shadow. At sixteen inches square it holds an entryway without crowding the light switches, and it changes with the hall's light through the day. The first thing your door opens onto is tool work — which says more about the house than a mirror would.

  • A bare entry wall? Sixteen carved inches hold it without crowding.
  • No visible hardware — the hidden mount floats it clear.
  • Fits the narrow wall between doorframe and switch plate.
  • Hangs at eye height over a console or hook rail.
  • Sculpture from across the room, tool marks up close.

It fits real homes.

The 8:58 backdrop

The 8:58 backdrop

Tuesday, 8:58, camera on in two minutes. The carved folds hang over the desk's shoulder and read calm on screen — one focal point, no clutter — and a coworker asks about it before the agenda starts.

Five-forty homecoming

Five-forty homecoming

Five-forty on a January evening, door open, cold air following the coats in. The hall lamp rakes the ridges sideways, and the first minute home lands on something carved instead of a bare switch plate.

Light on the move

Light on the move

Morning sun from the sidelight rakes the ridges one way; the four o'clock lamp rakes them the other. The same sixteen inches of wall reads differently at breakfast than at supper, all year, no two hours alike.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs beneath the folds — calm figure that lets the tool marks, not the wood, carry the movement, and reads clearly even from the doorway.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own oils; we hand-rub more into the carved face until the ridges hold a low sheen. Up close the panel smells faintly of leather and shavings, never of varnish.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with the lowest shrinkage of the common hardwoods and twenty days of kiln drying behind it, the panel hangs flat through furnace winters and window-open summers.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Silvering needs outdoor UV and rain — on an entry wall the gold only deepens with years. Hard afternoon sun shifts the tone slowly and evenly; teak fades milder than walnut in the same window.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled for straight, even grain that carries a carved rhythm without distraction — selectors with thirty years at the stacks reject twisted or dull stock on sight.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The tide pattern is drawn full-size on the blank, then carved slightly proud of the line, gouge work leaving depth for the hand-sanding that follows.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Every fold is sanded through five grits until the ridges feel soft under an open palm, not merely look soft under the shop lights.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each; the charcoal edges are cut in last. The maker hangs the panel on a shop wall and checks it level before boxing.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What is the wall art made from?
Solid teak panels, carved — not a printed or laser-etched pattern. The folds are cut into the board itself, so the piece throws real shadow and can be re-oiled for decades.
Can a piece be scaled to my wall?
Yes — each piece is made to order, so dimensions scale to your wall. Send a photo of the space with rough measurements and we will suggest proportions before the build starts.
How does it hang?
Hanging hardware is fitted at the workshop — keyhole slots or French cleats chosen by weight — with matching anchors in the box. Most pieces hang on two screws in under fifteen minutes.
Does wooden wall art need maintenance?
Dust with a soft dry brush. Keep it off walls with hard, direct afternoon sun if you can — teak's shift is mild and even, but every wood moves tone under UV. Nothing else is required year to year.
How does wall art ship?
Each piece ships flat in a rigid, foam-lined carton with hardware taped inside. Photograph the carton on arrival and note any damage on the receipt — if the carrier was rough, we make it right.
Will it fit above my console or bench?
This piece measures 16 inches wide by 16 inches high and hangs from a hidden mount, so it centers cleanly above a console, bench, or hook rail. Larger sizes can be commissioned — the carving scales with the board.
