Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid walnut · Floating desk

A workday hung on the wall

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

An office that disappears when the laptop closes.

One walnut plank, an inch and a half thick, keeps its live edge and takes a hand-rubbed oil until the dark grain gleams. A desk without legs shows every face, so the maker finishes every face, pre-drills the mounting points, and sands the underside as carefully as the top — solid walnut, no veneer to chip at the edge.

Not every home has a spare room to give an office, and a folding table never earns its corner. Mounted in a hallway nook or a bedroom corner, this carries a laptop, a lamp, and a full morning of work, then goes back to being a clean line of walnut on the wall. The apartment gains an office and gives up nothing.

  • Laptop station, writing spot, or entryway ledge
  • Pre-drilled and ready to mount into wall studs
  • No legs — a chair slides fully beneath it
  • Live edge keeps the workspace from reading corporate
  • Doubles as a display shelf between workdays

It fits real homes.

The nine a.m. nook

The nine a.m. nook

Nine a.m., laptop open, coffee on the corner, and the hallway is suddenly an office. When the last call ends the lid closes and the workspace becomes a quiet walnut shelf again, warm underhand where a metal desk would be cold.

Homework at the edge

Homework at the edge

Four o'clock on a school day, the desk turns into homework territory — one kid, one pencil, one live edge to lean an elbow on. Pencil dents and an eraser's worth of fidgeting, wiped down by dinner.

Sunday letters and lists

Sunday letters and lists

Sunday afternoon, bills sorted, one birthday card written the slow way, the week's list taking shape on paper. A small desk keeps the small rituals alive, the oiled grain pulling a hand across it between lines.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order, and dimensions vary from one to the next. Need a different size for your space? Tell us your measurements and we'll build it to fit.

Teak, up close.

No two boards alike

Across the desktop, straight grain breaks into curls, waves, and darker mineral streaks — chocolate tones that come from the tree itself, never from a stain. Yours will read a shade different from the photo, because it is a different plank.

No two boards alike

A hand-rubbed depth

A simple oil finish is all walnut asks. The worksurface polishes to a smooth, lustrous depth that pulls a hand across it between paragraphs, and cured hard it gives off no chemical smell under a long workday.

A hand-rubbed depth

Gunstock toughness

At about 1,010 on the Janka scale, walnut absorbs the daily impact of laptops, mugs, and dropped keys without turning brittle. A gouge that does land spot-sands and re-oils at home in ten minutes — gunstock resilience under your elbows.

Gunstock toughness

Mellows, never fades

The desktop settles into a warmer, more personal patina with each year of work and light, deepening indoors rather than fading — a record of every morning it held, not wear.

Mellows, never fades

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Thick walnut stock is pulled board by board for figure worth working under daily, then kiln-dried until the moisture meter says done. Twist, checks, or dull grain never make a desk.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The plank is cut around its live edge, slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the handwork that finishes every visible face.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Top, underside, and edge are sanded through successive grits until a forearm rests comfortably anywhere along the front.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. Mounting points, flatness, and finish are checked before the desk ships.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What exactly is a floating desk?
Each floating desk is a solid walnut worksurface with an integrated hanging system — no legs, no frame, just a plank thick enough to hold a full workday without flexing.
Can I choose the size and add cable slots?
Yes — width and depth are cut to order. A 36-inch desk suits a hallway nook; a 60-inch run handles dual monitors. Cable slots can be added wherever you want them.
How strong is the wall mount?
The desk hangs on a concealed steel cleat with included hardware, anchored into at least two studs — not drywall anchors alone. Bolted to studs, it holds far more than a laptop, a lamp, and a leaning forearm ever weigh.
What maintenance is involved?
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth, use a pad under heavy daily writing, and re-oil yearly — the oil spot-repairs a scratch at home instead of peeling. Check the mounting screws once a year as the seasons move the wood.
How does it arrive?
Floating desks are made to order and ship flat in heavily padded cartons with cleat and template included. Tracking follows the box from the workshop to your door.
What size is this build, and can it change?
The listed build is a compact 16-by-18-inch surface in inch-and-a-half-thick walnut — a laptop-and-notebook footprint, priced per single piece. Sizes, tones, and finishes can all be adjusted when you order.
