Natural grain. Finished by hand.

The form of this lamp body is shaped by natural grain, then its visible wood surfaces are refined and finished by hand.

Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Floor lamp

Light carried on a twist of teak

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A floor lamp that holds its own in daylight.

Most lamps disappear when they are off; this one was designed not to. Our designers drew the spiral until it read cleanly from every side of the room, then an artisan carved it from a solid teak column — no metal tube in a wood sleeve — keeping the shade deliberately plain so the grain leads.

Floor lamps are usually the first thing replaced and the last thing chosen — thin metal, a wobble, gone by the next move. This one is furniture: heavy enough to plant beside the reading chair, sculptural enough to earn the corner at noon with the switch off. A warm pool of light at night, a standing piece of carved teak all day.

  • Warm reading light beside the chair or sofa
  • Reads as sculpture at noon with the switch off
  • Fills the tall corner nothing else has fixed
  • Plain shade keeps the eye on the carved column
  • Heavy teak base — dog tails and vacuums will not tip it

It fits real homes.

The last chapter

The last chapter

Ten at night, house quiet, one warm circle of light over the armchair. The day gets its final twenty pages inside that circle, and the spiral column throws a slow shadow up the wall while the furnace hums.

Dinner at low light

Dinner at low light

Friends stay past midnight at the table, so the overheads go off and the lamp takes over — enough light to talk by, warm enough that nobody checks the time. The last hour of a good dinner belongs to this lamp.

The corner, solved

The corner, solved

The Monday after the clocks fall back, it is dark at 4:45. The lamp clicks on in the corner nothing else ever fixed, and the living room gets its evening back — height, warmth, and grain in a single footprint.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order, and dimensions vary from one to the next. Need a different size for your space? Tell us your measurements and we'll build it to fit.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain follows the twist from base to socket — run a palm down one turn of the spiral and the figure travels with your hand the whole way, smooth and slightly warm.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the spiraling surface, and under the lit shade the satin catches along every turn — wood glowing at the edge of the light it holds up, with no lacquer smell in the room.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, kiln-dried for twenty days before carving, the base has real standing weight — the lamp plants itself and stays put through vacuum passes, dog tails, and dry-winter static season.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Kept indoors, the column holds its gold for decades and deepens slightly with the years; strong window sun shifts the surface toward silver-grey. A wipe of fresh oil brings the tone back before the bulb needs changing.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Stock for the column is pulled one board at a time for straight grain that can carry a twist, then checked off the kiln with a moisture meter. Dull or checked wood never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The spiral is traced from templates, then cut slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the handwork that gives the twist its final flow.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Every turn of the column is sanded by hand through five grits until the spiral feels continuous under a palm run top to bottom without a snag.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The wiring is tested lit on the bench, the base checked for rock on a flat surface, and the finish inspected before the lamp is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How is the lamp made and wired?
The twisted column is carved from solid teak and finished in natural oil — no lacquer film, nothing to off-gas. Each lamp arrives fully wired with a bulb included; a power plug is not attached, so you fit one matching your outlet. That is honest to say out loud: it is a five-minute job with a hardware-store plug kit, and it means the lamp works anywhere.
Can I adjust the height or shade?
Base height and shade pairing can be adjusted when you order — a taller build to stand beside a wingback, a compact one for a bedroom corner. Because each lamp is made after you order it, ask and we will match proportions to the spot.
What bulb does it use?
Lamps arrive fully assembled with a standard socket and an included bulb; when it is time to replace it, use a warm LED around 2700K — the tone that makes oiled teak glow instead of flatten. Shade fitting, where included, slips on without tools.
Any care advice?
Dust the column with a dry cloth and keep the cord untwisted at the outlet. A wipe of oil once a year keeps the grain rich — and if the base ever picks up a scuff, it spot-sands and re-oils at home in minutes, which no painted metal lamp can offer.
How do lamps ship?
Every lamp is made to order and packed in a foam-fitted box, the shade boxed separately when included. Tracking is sent the day it ships — and it comes out of the box smelling like wood, not solvent, because there is no film finish to cure.
