Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Handcrafted solid wood · Bookshelf

Shelves that never learn to sag

The piece

The shelf smile is not a design feature.

Every particleboard bookcase learns the same curve — the long shelf bowing under a year of hardcovers, the smile that never straightens. These shelves are solid teak through their full thickness, no MDF core, no printed skin, dense enough to carry a packed row of hardcovers without ever learning that curve.

Load the living room wall with what you actually keep — art monographs, a running yard of vinyl, the cast-iron bookends — and the grain carries it without comment. Because the wood is solid, the surface can also be sanded and re-oiled for decades, which no veneer survives.

  • Solid teak shelves carry full hardcover rows without the sag curve
  • Bottom shelf sits at a four-year-old's reach
  • Reads calm behind you on every video call
  • Arrives built — no diagrams, no cam locks, no lost Saturday
  • Top surface displays ceramics and plants at eye height

It fits real homes.

Two minutes to the call

Eight fifty-eight on a Tuesday. The laptop opens, and the shelf behind reads calm on camera — straight spines, one plant, oiled grain catching the window light. The room looks like someone lives a considered life in it. The meeting can start.

The FREE sign

July 31st, moving day. The particleboard bookcase stays at the curb with a FREE sign, soft at every joint after three moves. The teak one gets the moving blankets and the good spot in the truck.

One more book

Seven-fifty on a school night, teeth brushed, stalling in progress. The bottom shelf belongs to a four-year-old who chooses with complete seriousness — her own row, her own reach — and the negotiation settles at three books, as always.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order, and dimensions vary from one to the next. Need a different size for your space? Tell us your measurements and we'll build it to fit.

Teak, up close.

The grain

Honey and amber bands run the length of each plank. No two boards repeat, so your piece is the only one with this pattern.

The oils

Teak grows its own protective oils, and they carry the wood through dry winters and humid summers that crack lesser boards. Spills just need wiping up promptly.

The weight

Lift a corner and you feel dense, solid stock with no hollow frames or fillers. Kiln-dried before the build, it sits flat and stays put, even when the heat comes on.

The years ahead

Teak deepens toward a richer brown as it lives with you. A wipe of teak oil twice a year holds the tone you chose.

From plank to piece.

Select

Planks graded by practiced eyes, then kiln-dried slowly until they settle.

Mill

Each board cut, squared, and matched to the pattern.

Shape

Joined and eased with hand tools after the machines have done the rough work.

Finish

Sanded fine, then oiled until the grain reads deep.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the bookshelves constructed?
The bookshelves in this collection are solid hardwood from shelf to frame, with fixed shelves joined directly into the sides — the construction that keeps long spans from sagging under a full row of hardcovers.
Can dimensions be adjusted to my wall?
Yes — height, width, and shelf spacing can be adjusted when you order. Measure your wall and ceiling first; we regularly build around baseboards, sloped ceilings, and awkward alcoves.
Should a bookshelf be anchored to the wall?
Taller bookshelves include an anti-tip strap and wall anchor, and we recommend using it, especially with children in the house. The strap installs into one stud in a few minutes.
What care do loaded shelves need?
Dust shelves with a dry cloth and rotate sun-exposed decor occasionally so the wood tones evenly. An annual coat of oil keeps edges and faces rich over the years.
How does a bookshelf arrive?
Bookshelves are made to order and ship crated, standing on a padded base with the back panel protected. Tracking is provided, and large pieces are delivered by appointment.
Does it need to be anchored to the wall?
With children in the house, yes — strap any tall unit to a wall stud; that rule applies to every bookcase ever made, ours included. The difference is what the strap is holding: a solid teak case is heavier and stiffer than a hollow laminate box, so it stands steady on old, uneven floors instead of racking. And the anchor hardware bites into solid wood, not a crumbly particleboard back panel, so it holds the tenth year as well as the first.
Will the shelves sag under a full row of hardcovers?
Shelf sag is the signature of particleboard — the material bows under sustained load and never comes back. These shelves are solid teak through their full thickness, from boards kiln-dried for twenty days before the build, and they carry a packed row of hardcovers or vinyl flat. Keep the heaviest monographs on the lower shelves, as any library does, and the piece holds its lines for decades.
