Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Sculptural bookshelf

A library shaped like moving water

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A library that flows instead of standing at attention.

The tiers were drafted as one continuous line, each shelf rolling into the next, then cut from teak boards matched for grain — solid through, not bent ply under a veneer skin. The boards spend twenty days in a controlled kiln before the first cut, so a piece this sculptural stays exactly the shape it was carved.

It arrives as furniture, not as forty wordless diagrams and a bag of cam locks — real joinery means nothing to assemble and no wobble waiting to develop. Loaded with a family's books it stands calm against the wall for decades, and you catch yourself restyling a tier now and then simply because it earns the attention.

  • Deep tiers take art books flat and record sleeves upright
  • Lowest curve puts children's books at children's height
  • Arrives as furniture — no cam locks, no lost Saturday
  • Open contours keep a large piece from darkening the room
  • Curved tier ends work as built-in bookends

It fits real homes.

The low tier

The low tier

Picture books live on the lowest curve at exactly kid height, so the 7:30 bedtime negotiation starts with a small hand pulling tonight's choice off the smooth rolled edge — and putting yesterday's back, most nights.

July 31st

July 31st

Moving day. The particleboard bookcase stays at the curb with a FREE sign taped on; the teak wave gets blanket-wrapped and carried like it matters. What makes the truck is what is real.

Friday, 9 p.m.

Records at one end, a trailing pothos at the other, two glasses of wine, no screens on. Lamplight catches the oiled tiers and the apartment goes quiet in the deliberate way.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the length of every tier — one calm ribbon of teak. In morning sun the rolled edges catch light like the lip of a wave.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak's own oils, hand-rubbed into every face and rolled edge. Under your palm it reads warm and satin-smooth — no cold lacquer film, no chemical smell on delivery day.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

Roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with shrinkage about half that of oak — loaded tiers stay flat and true while the furnace takes winter humidity down into the twenties.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

The gold deepens indoors year over year. If a sunny window tones one tier ahead of the rest, a light sanding and fresh oil even everything out in an afternoon.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks, matched by tone so the grain runs as a family across the tiers.

The shaping process

The shaping process

Each tier is traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — spare material for the handwork that joins curve to curve without a break.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Transitions are faired and sanded by hand through successive grits until every rolled edge feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker loads a test row of books, checks stance and level, then signs the shelf out of the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the bookshelves constructed?
Solid hardwood from shelf to frame, fixed shelves joined directly into the sides — the joinery that keeps long spans from sagging under hardcovers. No particleboard anywhere, so no formaldehyde glue and nothing to off-gas.
Can dimensions be adjusted to my wall?
Yes — height, width, and shelf spacing are set when you order, because the build starts then. Measure your wall, ceiling, and narrowest doorway first; we regularly build around baseboards, sloped ceilings, and awkward alcoves.
Should a bookshelf be anchored to the wall?
Taller bookshelves include an anti-tip strap and wall anchor, and we recommend using it, especially with climbing-age children in the house. The strap installs into one stud in a few minutes and disappears behind the top tier.
What care do loaded shelves need?
Dust with a dry cloth and rotate sun-exposed decor occasionally so the teak tones evenly. A thin annual coat of oil keeps faces and edges rich — a twenty-minute job, not a refinishing project.
How does a bookshelf arrive?
Made to order and shipped crated, standing on a padded base with the back panel protected. Photograph the crate before the driver leaves — if anything arrived wrong, that photo makes the fix fast. Large pieces deliver by appointment.
Do books stand upright on the curved tiers?
Yes — each tier levels out where the books stand, with the curve rising at the ends to act as a built-in bookend. Taller art books lie flat on the deeper sections.
