Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Wall-mounted bookshelf

The wave that holds forty hardcovers

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

One flowing curve, cut from solid teak.

The curve is drawn where each alcove falls and how deep a hardcover sits, then cut from solid teak boards — not bent plywood under a veneer skin, which is how most sculptural shelving gets its shape. The boards spend twenty days in a temperature-controlled kiln first, so the wave you hang stays the wave you bought.

Floating shelves have taught a generation to expect sag and mystery hardware. This one mounts into studs on concealed fittings, with a paper template locating every screw, and carries a full row of books without a visible bracket. The floor below stays clear for the vacuum, and the blank wall you never knew what to do with becomes the one guests cross the room for.

  • Alcoves sized for hardcovers, paperbacks, and one small plant
  • Mounts into studs with a paper template — no sag, no mystery hardware
  • Floor below stays clear for the vacuum and the dog bed
  • Puts the eye-level wall behind your desk or sofa to work
  • Moves to the next apartment in one box

It fits real homes.

Tuesday, 8:58

The laptop opens for the 9:00 call and the wave reads calm over one shoulder — spines, one ceramic, no clutter. The camera-checked corner of the living room finally holds up its end.

Fourth apartment

Fourth apartment

Move-in day, landlord-beige walls again. The shelf goes up in an hour, the books slide into their alcoves, and the rented living room starts being theirs — the one piece that moves with every lease and anchors each one.

The current shelf

The current shelf

Thursday book club is at seven. The month's pick sits face-out on the center crest, last month's moves spine-in, and the lamp catches the low sheen of the oiled curve while the ending gets argued over.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the length of each shelf face. In low lamplight the oiled faces show a soft sheen instead of gloss — calm from across the sofa.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak's own oils, hand-rubbed deeper — no plastic film. Run a finger along an alcove and it reads warm and slightly waxy, like a well-handled banister, never cold.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

About 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with shrinkage roughly half that of oak — the spans stay flat under loaded hardcovers while forced-air winters pull the room toward desert dryness.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the gold only deepens. If a south window tones one crest ahead of the rest, twenty minutes of light sanding and fresh oil even the wave back out.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are matched by tone so the grain runs as one family along the wave, then kiln-dried twenty days so the curve is cut from wood that has finished moving.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The contour is traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — spare material for the spokeshave work that gives each alcove its profile.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Every transition is faired and sanded by hand through successive grits until the curve feels right against an open palm, not merely looks right.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker hangs the shelf on a shop wall, checks level and mounting points, then packs the template with it.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the bookshelves constructed?
Solid hardwood from shelf to frame — no bent plywood, no veneer to sand through — with fixed shelves joined directly into the sides. That joinery is what keeps a loaded span from sagging by year three; hardcovers are heavy, and the wave was drawn around that fact.
Can dimensions be adjusted to my wall?
Yes — height, width, and shelf spacing are set when you order, because the build starts then. Measure the wall and note outlets and vents; we regularly work around baseboards, sloped ceilings, and thermostats.
Should a bookshelf be anchored to the wall?
This piece mounts directly to the wall with the included concealed hardware. Anchor into studs at the marked points — the paper template locates every screw — and the curve carries a full load of books with nothing touching the floor.
What care do loaded shelves need?
Dust with a dry cloth and rotate sun-facing decor now and then so the teak tones evenly. Once a year, wipe a thin coat of oil into faces and edges — a twenty-minute job, not a refinishing project.
How does a bookshelf arrive?
Made to order and crated — corner blocks, blanket wrap, the mounting template packed on top. Tracking comes at dispatch, and larger spans are delivered by appointment so someone is home to check the crate.
