Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Wall tree bookshelf

A black tree that holds the books

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

Sculpture from the sofa, a library up close.

Each tree begins as real teak branches, chosen one limb at a time for the way they fork and lean. Our artisans shape and sand every branch by hand, then finish the whole form in matte black, so the silhouette reads crisp against a pale wall — 80 inches tall, 60 wide.

Most nursery and starter shelving is particleboard that gets hauled to the curb the summer the crib comes down. This one outlives the phase — the low branch that holds board books at toddler height holds hardbacks a decade later. Anchored into studs, it does not sag or rack, and it stays the wall a first-time guest crosses the room to touch.

  • Branches hold picture books face-out at child height
  • 80-by-60-inch spread fills a blank wall
  • Floating design keeps the floor clear underneath
  • Upper limbs carry plants and framed photos
  • Matte black silhouette suits mid-century rooms

It fits real homes.

Choosing tonight's story

Choosing tonight's story

Bedtime, and a small hand reaches for the lowest branch, where the picture books live face-out. The tree makes picking a story part of the ritual.

The wall people photograph

The wall people photograph

Someone always steps back at a gathering, phone out, framing the black branches against the wall. You have learned to keep the shelves tidy by Friday.

Sunday reshuffling

Sunday reshuffling

Library books come off, new ones go up, a small plant migrates to a higher limb. Twenty minutes of rearranging that never feels like a chore.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Even under matte black, the teak's tight grain still telegraphs through in raking light — the calm mid-century figure kept legible, not painted flat and dead. Look sideways from the sofa and the wood texture reads before the color does.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak's own oils let the black lie down even, no blotch, no plastic build. Run a hand down a branch and you feel wood grain through the color — warm at room temperature, never the cold slick of a sprayed MDF shelf.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter and among the lowest-shrinkage hardwoods, each cantilevered limb carries a full row of hardbacks without a sag — and holds its line when winter furnace heat dries the room into the twenties.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors this finish does not fade or silver — the black holds and the teak beneath stays put. If a climbing kid ever scuffs a limb to bare wood, it spot-sands and re-blacks at the wall, no full refinish.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Branches are pulled one at a time and matched by the way they fork and lean. Twisted or checked limbs never make the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The tree's spread is laid out from templates, each limb cut slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the handwork.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Every branch is sanded through successive grits until it feels right against an open palm, then finished in even coats of black.

The final inspection

The final inspection

The maker dry-fits the full tree, checks every mounting point and shelf surface, and signs it out of the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What exactly is a wall tree bookshelf?
Each wall tree is cut from solid wood into a branching form whose limbs are the shelves — a piece that reads as sculpture from the sofa and works as storage up close.
Can I choose the height and spread?
Yes. Height, spread, and branch count are made to order — a six-foot tree for a child's reading corner, or a nine-foot spread across a living-room wall.
How does it mount to the wall?
The tree mounts in sections on included hardware, anchored into studs at marked points. A paper template locates every screw; two people make quick work of the larger spreads.
How do I care for it once loaded?
Dust the limbs when you dust the books. The black finish needs only a dry cloth; rearranging the books now and then keeps the display fresh.
How does it ship?
Wall trees ship made to order in flat, sectioned cartons with templates and hardware packed first on top. Tracking follows the shipment from the workshop to your door.
How large is this tree, and is black the only finish?
The standard spread is 80 inches high by 60 inches wide. The matte black finish shown is standard for this design, but natural teak and other tones can be requested when you order.
Will it warp or crack when the winter heat comes on?
Solid wood dried too fast will move once the furnace kicks on. These branches do not: every limb is chosen by wood selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks, then spends twenty days in a temperature-controlled kiln, so the moisture is gone and the shape is set before the tree is cut into shelves. Mount it a foot clear of a heat vent and the limbs stay true through a dry winter.
