Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Bookshelf

Carved uprights, working shelves.

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A bookshelf whose carved frame does the standing ovation.

Hand-carved vertical supports curve up the full height, holding straight, open shelves between them — solid against horizontal, motion against calm. Our designers set that contrast deliberately; the artisan selects the teak, carves each upright's layered curves by hand, and joins the shelves straight into them so a loaded row never bows.

A flat-pack bookcase promises a library and delivers a sag — the middle shelf dipping under hardcovers by the second year, the whole thing needing a wall to lean on. This one stands freestanding on solid teak, kiln-dried until it holds its line, and gives a modern room its bold vertical without closing anything in. The first thing visitors mention about your library is not the books.

  • Full rows of books and objects? The open shelves hold them
  • Carved uprights give the room its vertical anchor
  • Freestanding — no wall build-in required
  • Airy structure keeps light moving through the room
  • Works loaded to the top or styled half-empty

It fits real homes.

The top-shelf treasures

The top-shelf treasures

The signed first edition and the vacation ceramics live on the high shelf, framed by the carved uprights — displayed like they matter, dusted twice a year, the grain catching the lamp when you finally reach up for one.

The dibs list

The dibs list

Thanksgiving, and the cousins drift to the tall shelf while the coffee brews. Someone half-jokes about who gets it someday; the carved uprights already look like something to hand down, and nobody is really joking.

The reshelving ritual

The reshelving ritual

Last night's stack goes back after breakfast — a hand steadied on the smooth carved upright, spines nudged flush. Thirty seconds of order before the door, the one tidy corner on a chaotic morning.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs up the carved supports and along every shelf — the calm figure that keeps a sculptural frame composed, and stays smooth under a hand that steadies against an upright reaching for a spine.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the carved uprights and shelf faces, deepening the gold in every curve the light finds — a hand-buffed satin with nothing to off-gas onto the books beside it.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with shrinkage about half that of oak, the shelves carry loaded rows flat and true through the dry pull of forced-air winter heat, year after year.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the carved frame deepens toward honey-amber rather than graying; silvering needs outdoor sun and rain. A light sanding and fresh oil bring it back to first gold whenever the years ask.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the stacks, matched by tone across uprights and shelves and dried twenty days in a controlled kiln. Stock with twist, checks, or dull figure never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The uprights' curves are traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line, leaving material for the carving that layers each form.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Carved supports and shelf edges are sanded by hand through successive grits until every curve feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker loads, levels, and checks every joint before the shelf is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the bookshelves constructed?
Solid teak from shelf to frame, with fixed shelves joined directly into the sides — the construction that keeps long spans from sagging under a full row of hardcovers, where a particleboard shelf dips in a year or two.
Can dimensions be adjusted to my wall?
Yes — height, width, and shelf spacing can be adjusted when you order. Measure your wall and ceiling first; we regularly build around baseboards, sloped ceilings, and awkward alcoves. Made-to-order means the dimensions are a headline, not a footnote.
Should a bookshelf be anchored to the wall?
Taller bookshelves include an anti-tip strap and wall anchor, and we recommend using it, especially with children in the house. The strap installs into one stud in a few minutes.
What care do loaded shelves need?
Dust shelves with a dry cloth and rotate sun-exposed decor occasionally so the wood tones evenly. An annual coat of oil keeps edges and faces rich; a scuffed edge spot-sands and re-oils at home, no refinisher.
How does a bookshelf arrive?
Bookshelves are made to order and ship crated, standing on a padded base with the back panel protected — we have thought about the truck. Photograph the crate before the driver leaves; tracking is provided and large pieces come by appointment.
Does the carving on the uprights reduce shelf space?
No — the carving lives in the vertical supports, while the shelves between them stay straight and full-depth. You get the sculptural frame and an honest run of usable shelf on every level.
