Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Wavy floating shelf

The curve the tree grew, on your wall

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A shelf that keeps the curve the tree grew.

Most shelves are straight because straight is easy. This one follows the board's own wave — a live edge our artisans chose to keep, not correct. The teak is full-thickness solid stock, dried twenty days in a controlled kiln so the curve set at the bench is the curve it holds through a dry-heat winter. Designers set the rise and dip by eye; the surface is hand-sanded until the wave reads as one unbroken motion.

Above the sofa it does what flat shelving cannot: it moves. The wall gains a line that carries the eye across the room, and the person who hung it gets to answer, more than once, the question of where it came from. Solid through, no hollow ledge to sag under a row of hardcovers — the shelf you keep past three apartments.

  • What sits on it? Framed photos, candles, small plants
  • Bare wall? The curve reads as art standing empty
  • See any brackets? None — only wood shows from below
  • Want a full wall? Stagger two or three in rhythm
  • Daily dusting for decades? The solid teak edge takes it

It fits real homes.

The photo ledge

The photo ledge

Three frames from the Outer Banks trip lean along the crest of the wave. Every evening around seven the reading lamp below catches them first, before the rest of the living room, and the salt-faded prints glow against the oiled grain.

Where the pothos goes

Where the pothos goes

The vine found the dip in the shelf on its own, trailing the low point toward the south window. Watering it on Sunday mornings is the week's quietest chore — ten minutes, no phone, the whole room still.

Friday reset

Friday reset

End of the work week, the shelf gets edited. One candle lit, one object retired to a drawer, one book faced out. Ten minutes on a Friday evening and the living room reads finished again, ready for whoever comes over.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain follows the wave along the shelf's full length — the calm figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name, deep enough to trace with a fingertip under a low lamp.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. Artisans hand-rub more into the top and curved edge, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin — a surface that smells of wood on delivery day, never of lacquer, and stays warm to the touch.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any furniture hardwood, the shelf stays flat and true when forced-air heat pulls a room's humidity down into the twenties each January.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Left in an outdoor spot, teak weathers to a refined silver-grey — a paper-thin surface change only. Indoors, out of the rain, it warms toward honey instead, and a light sanding and fresh oil bring the wave back to gold anytime.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time by a thirty-year selector for a natural wave worth keeping. Stock with twist, hidden checks, or dull figure never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The curve is traced from the board's own line, then bandsawn slightly proud — leaving material for the handwork that finishes the wave.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The face and rolling edge are sanded by hand through five successive grits until the curve feels like one motion against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks level, bracket seating, and finish before the shelf ships.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What sets these shelves apart?
These shelves are milled from full-thickness solid teak, finished on every face, and built to read as a clean line of wood on the wall — no visible brackets, no hollow core to bow. The front edge can be sanded and re-oiled for years, which a veneer ledge cannot.
How precise can the sizing be?
Every shelf is cut to order: length to the inch, depth to the job — six inches for frames, ten for books, twelve for kitchen dishes. Because it is made after you order, the wave is set to your span; sets are cut from matching stock.
What holds them to the wall?
A hidden steel bracket ships with each shelf, sized to its span. Anchor into studs for heavy loads; the included anchors carry frames and plants on plain drywall. Nothing but wood shows once it is up.
What ongoing care is needed?
Wipe with a dry cloth and re-oil the front edge yearly — it is the surface hands and sunlight find first. A loaded shelf appreciates an occasional check of the mounting screws; a scratch spot-sands out in minutes.
How are they packed for transit?
Shelves are made to order, individually wrapped, and shipped in rigid cartons with bracket, template, and hardware included. Tracking is sent as the order leaves the workshop; photograph the carton before signing if it looks crushed.
Is the listed price for one shelf or a set, and will mine match the photos?
The price covers one shelf. Because each board's wave is natural, your shelf's curve and grain will differ slightly from the photos — no two are cut alike, which is the proof it is one of one. Order a set together and we cut them from matching stock so the waves relate.
