Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Mantel shelf

The ledge the seasons decorate

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

The mantel is where a room keeps its story.

Solid teak blocks are joined into one continuous shelf, knots and live edge left in view. The maker matches each block so the figure flows across the joints, then shapes and oils the run by hand until it reads as a single beam. It ships separated into parts to travel safely and assembles simply on the wall.

A mantel lives in the driest air in the house — the fire below sees to that. These blocks spend twenty days in a temperature-controlled kiln before the first cut, so their moving is already done. What remains is the good part: October candles, December stockings, June's single vase, and a household that decorates the same ledge by instinct.

  • One ledge for candles, frames, garland, and the year's cards
  • Works over a firebox or as an entry drop shelf
  • Concealed cleat carries the beam's full weight
  • Knots and live edge give a plain wall its focal line
  • Ships in parts for safe transit; assembles without a carpenter

It fits real homes.

December on the ledge

December on the ledge

Stockings hooked along the front edge by mid-December, garland threaded behind the candles, the year's cards leaning against the wall. For one month this shelf carries the entire holiday, and it does not bow.

7:40 landing strip

7:40 landing strip

Mounted in the hall at 7:40 on a school morning: keys down, permission slip found, sunglasses grabbed on the third pass. The last surface checked leaving and the first one touched coming home.

First fire of October

First fire of October

The first cold Saturday of October, fire lit, light moving across the knots and raw edge overhead, the rising warmth lifting a faint sweet scent off the oiled teak. The mantel does nothing all evening and still holds the whole room together.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain flows the length of the run, broken honestly by knots and the raw edge — and firelight moving across that figure is the room's slowest show.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the top and edge, and the low sheen catches candle flame and morning sun differently — matte by day, warm by night.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

Roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with about half oak's seasonal movement — the run stays straight through the dry radiant heat a working firebox throws all winter.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the shelf deepens toward caramel rather than greying — silvering needs outdoor rain and sun. If the fireside face ever dries pale, a wipe of oil restores it in minutes.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Solid teak blocks are chosen one at a time by thirty-year selectors so grain and tone flow across the joints. Dull or twisted stock never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

Blocks are joined and the shelf cut slightly proud of the line, preserving the live edge and knots that give the run its character.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The top and raw edge are sanded through five grits until the joined blocks feel like a single board under an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks joints and finish before the mantel is signed out of the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

Is the mantel one piece of wood?
This mantel is built from solid teak blocks joined into one continuous shelf — solid wood throughout, no hollow box. To travel safely, it ships separated into its individual parts and assembles simply on arrival, with the joints shaped to read as a single run.
What lengths can be ordered?
Lengths are cut to order up to about 84 inches. Measure your firebox and add the overhang you want — six inches per side is the common look — and we also match non-standard depths for stone surrounds.
How does a heavy beam mount?
A concealed steel cleat or threaded rods carry the beam's full weight — hardware included, sized to the shelf. Anchor into studs or masonry, and mind clearance requirements above the firebox.
Does heat from the fireplace affect it?
Radiant heat dries any wood, which is why these blocks were kiln-dried twenty days before joining — the movement is already out of them. Follow your fireplace type's clearance codes, oil the shelf twice a year instead of once, and the run stays straight season after season.
How does the beam ship?
Mantel beams are made to order and ship in rigid, foam-lined cartons — heavy enough that you should plan a two-person carry, which is the weight doing its job. Photograph any carton damage before opening, and tracking is provided at dispatch.
