Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Storage bench

A bench with a tide carved in

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

Seating, storage, and one long carved wave.

The form is a clean rectangle; the character is the wave carved across its front panels, a soft contour that catches light differently every hour of the day. Carvers cut the pattern into solid teak by hand, then sand each crest until the face reads as one motion. Solid blocks run all the way through, with no foil-wrapped core to swell the first time a wet boot leans against it.

At the foot of a bed or along an entry wall it earns its footprint twice — a seat on top, storage below for the gear that otherwise breeds by the door. The blocks dried twenty days in a controlled kiln before joining, so the lid stays flat and the wave stays crisp through forced-air winters. Guests trail a hand across the carving without thinking, and the owner never tires of watching them.

  • Solid teak seat holds an adult tying shoes without flex
  • Storage below swallows blankets, shoes, mittens, and winter gear
  • Carved wave front reads as sculpture from across the room
  • Fits an entry, the foot of a bed, or a window wall
  • Clean rectangular footprint slips into narrow hallways

It fits real homes.

The school-run seat

The school-run seat

7:40 on a school morning. Two kids, four shoes, one bench by the door; hats and mittens live in the compartment below, and the scramble ends sitting down instead of hopping on one foot in the hall. The clutter stops here instead of spreading through the house.

Foot of the bed

Foot of the bed

October, and the spare blankets come back out of the bench for the season; come spring they go back in. In between it is where the day's clothes land at eleven at night and where the suitcase gets packed flat on the closed lid.

The passing touch

The passing touch

Nearly everyone who walks by trails a hand along the carved wave — family, weekend guests, the dog-sitter. Some furniture gets used; this piece gets greeted, and the oiled crests stay smooth under a decade of idle fingers.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the length of the seat — the calm figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name. Morning light raking across the wave panels throws the grain into soft relief.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils; we hand-rub more into the seat and the carved wave. The golden tone deepens to a warm satin that never feels like plastic, and a wet boot or a damp swimsuit beads and wipes instead of soaking in.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with movement about half that of oak, the seat takes daily sitting and stays flat. The blocks spend twenty days in a temperature-controlled kiln before joining, so the lid does not warp when the furnace dries the hall in January.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors teak deepens toward honey-amber with the years; the silver-grey patina needs outdoor sun and rain, not an entry wall. If a sunny window lightens the seat, a light sanding and fresh oil bring the wave's gold back in an afternoon.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks, matched so the grain flows with the wave across the front panels. Dull stock never makes it.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The bench form and wave contour are traced from workshop templates, then cut slightly proud of the line — the extra sixteenth of an inch belongs to the carving that follows.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Every crest and hollow of the wave is sanded through five grits until the pattern flows unbroken under a slow palm, with extra passes on the seat edge where the backs of knees rest.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker cycles the lid on its soft-close hinges, checks the compartment and level, and rakes a lamp across the wave before sign-off.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What does a storage bench give me beyond seating?
Two builds in one: a solid teak seat rated well past 300 pounds, and a full-depth compartment underneath on soft-close hinges that settle instead of slam. The lid is a worked board, not a hollow panel, which is why a grown adult can sit to lace boots without a creak.
Can the size and interior be adjusted?
Yes — each bench is built after you order, so length, seat height, and interior depth adjust. A 48-inch build swallows a family's throw blankets with room left for board games.
Is it assembled, and how much weight can it take?
This bench ships in sections to protect the carved wave panels in transit, and assembles with pre-fitted bolts and the included key in about twenty minutes. Once together, the seat is rated conservatively past 300 pounds — real joinery, not cam locks.
Any care notes for the compartment?
Air the compartment each season and wipe the seat with a barely damp cloth. Oil the exterior once a year; the interior is left raw on purpose so it can breathe and will not trap the smell of stored wool. A scuff on the seat spot-sands and re-oils in about ten minutes.
How does it ship?
Every storage bench is made to order and travels boxed or crated by size, the lid strapped for transit and the wave panels corner-blocked. You get tracking the day it ships — photograph the packaging before the driver leaves, and if damage got through, we make it right.
