Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Sculptural bench

Sculpture rated for two seated adults

The piece

Sit on it, or just look at it.

The designers worked the curves until the bench held two ideas at once: a comfortable seat and a standing form worth circling. It is carved from thick teak stock matched by tone across seat and base, shaped by hand, and sanded through five grit stages until the transitions run as one gesture. The oil finish stays warm to the touch and renews at home with a rag — no film to chip, nothing to strip.

Entry and bedroom benches take boots, duffel bags, and the full sit-down weight of shoe-tying — which is why the flimsy ones fail there first, bolts loosening by month three. This one carries adults without ceremony and never asks to be babied. When a visitor hesitates before sitting on it, the carving did its job; when they finally do sit, so did the joinery.

  • Seats two adults comfortably despite the gallery looks
  • Takes boots, bags, and wet dogs at the door
  • Smooth carved top doubles as a display ledge
  • Arrives assembled — no allen key, no lost Saturday
  • Light enough to move when the room plan changes

It fits real homes.

Doorbell, dog, bench

Doorbell, dog, bench

Weeknight, a sixty-pound dog with a confident tail. Paws hit the bench at every doorbell and nobody yells — the wood was chosen for exactly this house, and Saturday's ten-minute oil rag settles any evidence the week left behind.

Five a.m. flight

Five a.m. flight

The suitcase perched on the bench at the foot of the bed, tomorrow's clothes laid out, one person dressing in the dark while the other sleeps. It holds the full case without a creak — quiet, daily, indispensable.

Friendsgiving overflow

Friendsgiving overflow

Mid-November potluck, seven friends and six chairs in an 800-square-foot apartment. The bench slides in from the window wall, seats the overflow shoulder to shoulder through pie, then goes back to being the room's resident sculpture.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain flows along the seat and down through the base — and where the curves turn, the figure turns with them, catching low afternoon light along every transition like water over a stone.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the seat and sculpted sides, a warm satin that never feels like plastic — and on a February morning by the front door, it is noticeably warmer under you than any metal or stone bench could be.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with about half the seasonal movement of oak, the carved seat stays true under daily weight — the stock dried for twenty days under controlled heat before carving began, so winter furnace air finds nothing left to move.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Left alone outdoors, teak weathers to a refined silver-grey — a surface change only. Indoors by an entry door that opens on winter air, the tone barely moves; a light sanding and fresh oil restore the gold in an afternoon.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Thick teak stock is pulled and matched by tone across seat and base under one light — all of it out of a twenty-day kiln first. Boards with twist, checks, or dull figure never make it.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The flowing profile is traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — material reserved for the rasps and spokeshaves that carve each curve by hand.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Seat and transitions are sanded by hand through successive grits until every curve feels right against an open palm — the seat checked last with a bare forearm, the way it will be used.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker sits on the bench, rocks it on a flat floor, and checks stance and finish before it leaves the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How much weight can a bench hold?
Each bench in this collection is built from thick solid-wood stock with through-joinery, comfortably seating two to three adults — conservatively rated well above 500 pounds distributed across the seat. The maker sits on every bench before it ships, which is a test no spec sheet replaces.
What wood and finish do you use?
Most benches are solid teak or acacia, hand-sanded and finished with penetrating oil rather than a plastic-feeling film. A film finish chips and must be stripped whole; penetrating oil spot-repairs at home with fine paper and a rag, for as long as you own the piece.
Do benches need assembly?
Nearly all benches arrive fully assembled — they are built as one piece, so they ship as one piece. A few long designs travel with legs removed to survive transit; those bolt on with the included key in about ten minutes, no wordless diagrams.
How do I keep the seat looking good?
Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry. Entryway benches see boots, rock salt, and wet paws all winter, so refresh the oil once or twice a year — ten minutes with a rag — and the marks in between read as patina, not damage.
How are benches packed for delivery?
Every bench is made to order, wrapped, corner-protected, and boxed or crated by size. We send tracking at dispatch; note any box damage on the delivery receipt before signing — never sign clean for a crushed box — and we make anything right.
Is a sculptural bench comfortable to actually sit on?
Yes. The seat is shaped and hand-sanded so the curves meet the body rather than fight it, and the solid teak build carries adults the same as any straight bench. It is furniture first, sculpture close behind — and it is sat on at the workshop before it ships.
