Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Sculptural bench

Sculpture rated for actual sitting

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A bench carved to move while standing still.

The seat rises and folds like a ribbon caught mid-turn, shaped from thick solid teak — no bent plywood under a skin, no hollow core to sound when tapped. An artisan carries each curve through by hand, fairing the surface until light slides across it, and the knots and grain shifts that surface along the sweep belong to your board alone.

Most sculptural pieces ask you not to touch them; this one is joined to hold three adults and rated conservatively past 500 pounds. Press a forearm into the highest point of the curve and nothing flexes, nothing ticks. It reads as art from across the room and as engineering the moment someone finally sits down — which, in your house, they will.

  • Seats two adults where an armchair would crowd the room
  • Doubles as a low plinth for ceramics or stacked books
  • Integrated ambient lighting anchors the room after dark
  • Holds a bed's foot, a window, or an open wall alone
  • Solid teak seat spot-sands at home if life leaves a mark

It fits real homes.

Friday, nine p.m.

Friday, nine p.m.

A record on, two glasses poured, no screens. The bench's integrated lighting lays a soft amber wash along the grain, and the room settles around one low, warm line — quiet the way only deliberate rooms are.

July 31st, moving day

July 31st, moving day

The busiest moving day in America. The movers wrap the curved teak in blankets like it matters, because it does; the flat-pack bookcase stays at the curb with a FREE sign. A move is an audit — the bench makes the truck.

Friendsgiving overflow

Friendsgiving overflow

Mid-November potluck, seven friends and six chairs. The bench gets carried in from the living room, takes two more sitters at the table's end, and never once looks like furniture pressed into service.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the full length of the curved seat, and where it bends through the fold it catches side light like water — the figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the seat and its underside, leaving a warm satin that stays smooth under bare feet on a cold February morning — never the cool slick of a film finish.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, the seat carries real heft — plan on two people to move it. That mass, and shrinkage about half of oak's, is why the sculpted form holds its line through winter heating.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Kept indoors, the seat deepens slowly toward honey-amber under daily light — it will not go grey without outdoor sun and rain. A light sanding and fresh oil return the original gold whenever you choose.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks pull boards one at a time, matching tone across the seat. Stock with twist, checks, or dull figure never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The flowing profile is traced from full-size templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the handwork that fairs each curve.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The seat is sanded by hand through five grits until the sweep feels continuous against an open palm, not merely looks right from a step away.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker loads the seat, checks stance and level on a flat floor, and signs the bench out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How much weight can a bench hold?
Each bench is built from thick solid-wood stock with through-joinery, comfortably seating two to three adults — conservatively rated well above 500 pounds distributed across the seat. Press the highest point of the curve; nothing flexes.
What wood and finish do you use?
Solid teak, hand-sanded and finished with penetrating oil rather than a film. Oil fails gracefully — a scratch spot-sands and re-oils at home in ten minutes, where a chipped lacquer top needs a refinisher.
Do benches need assembly?
Nearly all benches arrive fully assembled — a finished piece is a byproduct of real joinery. A few long designs ship with legs removed to survive transit; they bolt on with the included key in about ten minutes.
How do I keep the seat looking good?
Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry. Re-oil once or twice a year when the surface looks thirsty — twenty minutes with a rag. Teak protects itself with its own oils; your job is small.
How are benches packed for delivery?
Every bench is made to order, wrapped, corner-protected, and boxed or crated by size. Photograph the packaging before the driver leaves and note anything on the receipt — if transit wins a round, we make it right.
Where does this sculptural design work best?
Where the curve can be seen from the side — floating in a living room, at the foot of a bed, or below a window. In an open plan it draws the line a wall would, marking where one zone ends and the next begins.
