Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Nightstand

Built for the blind 3 am reach

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A nightstand built around the arm's-reach hour.

The designers measured the bedside hour itself — a floating top for the water glass, an open shelf for tonight's book, a drawer for what stays private — then handed the drawing to solid teak. Blocks joined and shaped by hand, no MDF core and no printed veneer, so the grain your piece carries will differ from these photos, because no two boards ever match — proof it is one of one.

A nightstand shares your air eight hours a night, so the finish is natural oil with nothing to off-gas — it opens smelling faintly of wood, not the headache of new furniture. The boards spent twenty days in a temperature-controlled kiln, so the drawer slides true when the furnace drops the bedroom into the twenties in January. Within a month the reaching hand stops noticing it — the highest thing a nightstand earns.

  • Floating top keeps the glass, lamp, and phone in blind reach
  • Drawer hides chargers, journals, and the phone that should stop glowing
  • Open shelf keeps the current book one motion away
  • Fits the narrow bedside wall a full dresser cannot
  • Made to order, so the height matches your mattress top

It fits real homes.

The 3 am reach

The 3 am reach

A water glass found blind in the dark — no creak, no fumble, no lamp. The floating top puts it exactly where a half-asleep hand expects, and the drawer keeps the phone from glowing the ceiling all night. In a January bedroom the oiled teak is never cold to the first touch.

Saturday, 8 am

Saturday, 8 am

Low autumn sun crosses the headboard by eight, coffee lands on the oiled top, last night's book still open on the shelf. Nobody is going anywhere for another hour, and the mug leaves its warmth in the grain instead of a white ring on the finish.

Digital sundown

Digital sundown

Ten-forty on a weeknight. The phone goes face-down into the drawer, glasses fold on the floating top, the paperback comes off the shelf. One smooth pull in the dark is the whole ceremony that ends the day — no charger light, no doomscroll, just the drawer sliding shut.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain flows across the floating top and drawer front — and under a low bedside lamp it reads calm instead of busy, the consistent figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the top and drawer face — a warm satin that smells faintly of wood, never lacquer, on the day the box opens beside your bed.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with shrinkage about half that of oak, the top stays flat and the drawer slides true in February, when forced-air heat drops indoor humidity into the twenties.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Silvering needs outdoor sun and rain; indoors, teak slowly deepens toward honey-amber, a shade warmer near a bright window. A light sanding and fresh oil reset the tone whenever you decide to.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Blocks are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks, grain-matched across top, shelf, and drawer front. Twisted or dull stock never makes it.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The floating-top silhouette is traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — a pencil's width of extra material left for the handwork on every curve.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Top edges and the drawer face are sanded through five grits, coarse to fine, until they feel right against an open palm reaching in the dark.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each with a cotton pad. The maker works the drawer a dozen times and checks the level top before sign-out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the nightstands constructed?
Solid teak down to the drawer boxes, with dovetailed or pinned corners — no MDF panel hiding anywhere. Tap it and it will not sound hollow, and the top can be sanded and re-oiled at home for decades, which veneer cannot survive.
Can I match the height to my bed?
Yes. Each nightstand is made to order, so height can match your mattress top, and depth can shrink for narrow bedside walls. Pairs are built together from matching stock, so two nightstands arrive as siblings, not strangers.
Is there any assembly?
This sculptural design ships in separated sections — not to save on freight, but to protect the joined solid-wood blocks in transit. The parts align and fasten with the included hardware in about fifteen minutes, one person, one key. No wordless diagrams, no leftover screw.
What care keeps them looking right?
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth, use a coaster under the overnight water glass, and re-oil the top once a year. Keep the piece a couple of feet from a heat vent in winter, and give the drawer runners an occasional rub of paraffin wax.
How do nightstands ship?
Each nightstand is built after you order it, then double-boxed with the drawer secured for transit. Pairs ship together, tracking is emailed when the boxes leave, and if anything arrives damaged we make it right — photograph the box and write us at support@timbervintique.com.
