Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Handcrafted solid wood · Standing shelf

The standing shelf your collections deserve

The piece

It arrives as a bookcase. Novel idea.

You know the ritual: forty wordless diagrams, a bag of cam locks, a Saturday gone, and one screw left over with no explanation. This piece skips all of it. Built as one piece with wood-to-wood joinery, it comes off the truck already a bookcase — carry it in, set it down, start shelving.

No assembly is not a convenience feature here; it is a structural one. Shelves joined on a bench, square from the start, do not depend on your allen-key torque to stand straight in the living room — and they never need the bolts retightened, because there are no bolts.

  • Arrives assembled — no cam locks, no lost Saturday
  • Finished on every face; works as a room divider
  • Solid teak shelves stay flat under full hardcover rows
  • No drilling or wall anchors — renters keep their deposit
  • Moves house as one piece, blanket-wrapped, lease after lease

It fits real homes.

July 31st, the audit

July 31st, the busiest moving day in America. The movers blanket-wrap the teak unit like it matters, because it does. The flat-pack bookcase watches from the curb, FREE sign taped on, its third move being one too many.

The taped outline

They taped the footprint on the loft floor for a week and walked around it before ordering. Now the unit stands exactly on the tape line, and for the first time the living room knows where it ends.

The bottom shelf is hers

The lowest shelf belongs to a four-year-old — picture books face-out, one stuffed rabbit standing guard. She reshelves it her own way every night, and nobody corrects the system, because the system works.

Teak, up close.

The grain

Honey and amber bands run the length of each plank. No two boards repeat, so your piece is the only one with this pattern.

The oils

Teak grows its own protective oils, and they carry the wood through dry winters and humid summers that crack lesser boards. Spills just need wiping up promptly.

The weight

Lift a corner and you feel dense, solid stock with no hollow frames or fillers. Kiln-dried before the build, it sits flat and stays put, even when the heat comes on.

The years ahead

Teak deepens toward a richer brown as it lives with you. A wipe of teak oil twice a year holds the tone you chose.

From plank to piece.

Select

Planks graded by practiced eyes, then kiln-dried slowly until they settle.

Mill

Each board cut, squared, and matched to the pattern.

Shape

Joined and eased with hand tools after the machines have done the rough work.

Finish

Sanded fine, then oiled until the grain reads deep.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How much weight can each shelf take?
Figure 30 to 50 pounds per shelf depending on span — a full run of hardcovers, which is the heaviest thing most shelves ever meet. The boards are dense, kiln-dried teak at honest thickness, so the practical rule is about balance rather than strength: load the heaviest things low, spread weight across the span, and the unit stands planted for decades.
Will it tip? Do I have to anchor it to the wall?
On a level floor, loaded heavier at the bottom, it stands securely on its own — that is the point of freestanding, and why renters buy it. The honest exception, and we insist on it: in a house with small children, add an anti-tip strap into a wall stud, the same as you would for any tall furniture. One screw, ten minutes, hidden behind the top shelf, and the subject is closed.
