Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Sculptural bench

One carved loop, no joints to loosen

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A bench carved as one continuous loop, seat and base in a single gesture.

The designers drew the loop dozens of times before the proportions sat right — a curve that returns to itself and still lands a level seat at sitting height. It is carved from teak that has already spent twenty days in a controlled kiln, then sanded until the line runs unbroken under a palm, the grain chasing the curve the whole way around. One board, no glued-up seams to open.

There is no hardware step because there is nothing to bolt — no cam locks, no wordless diagrams, no joints to work loose under years of dropping down hard with grocery bags. It lands in the entry, takes the first boots-and-backpacks morning without a shiver, and the house reads more deliberately yours from that day on.

  • A steady seat for lacing shoes and setting down bags
  • Continuous base stands firm on wood, tile, or a rug
  • Slides to the table when dinner runs two chairs short
  • Reads as sculpture at the foot of a bed
  • No cushion to slip, fade, or ever launder

It fits real homes.

The 7:40 scramble

The 7:40 scramble

A school morning at 7:40: keys hit the shelf, one kid drops onto the bench to fight a shoe, the dog leash gets found on the first try. Everyone is out the door in thirty seconds, and the bench resets itself for the three-fifteen return.

The seam hunt

The seam hunt

A first-time dinner guest crouches by the entry, running a thumb along the loop from seat to floor and back, hunting for the joint. There is only grain, curving through where a bolt should be. The conversation stops for it every time.

Friendsgiving overflow

Friendsgiving overflow

Mid-November potluck, seven friends and a table set for six. The bench slides in from the hallway, two more places get laid, and the sculptural end of the table becomes the seat everyone quietly wants. Nobody remembers it held the front-door shoes an hour ago.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain follows the loop from seat down through the base and back. In low evening light the whole curve reads as one continuous shadow — no seam, no break, no place for the eye to stop.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the seat and every sweep of the loop, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin — a seat that stays warm under you through a January morning the way stone and metal never do.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, the loop lands with a heft two people notice on the carry up the walk. That mass, plus shrinkage about half of oak's, keeps the stance planted from a humid Gulf August through a furnace-dried January.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the gold deepens year by year. Outside in full sun and rain it silvers in months — a paper-thin surface change, and a light sanding with fresh oil returns the gold whenever you choose. A covered porch grays patchily; commit to one or the other.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time by selectors who read grain for a living, so the figure can run the full length of the loop without a wild streak breaking the line. Twisted or dull stock never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The loop is traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the spokeshave work that fairs every curve until the transitions disappear.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The seat and the inside of the loop are sanded through five successive grits until the line runs unbroken under an open palm, edge to edge.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks the seat with a level and rocks the base on a flat bench before sign-out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How much weight can a bench hold?
Each bench in this collection is built from thick solid-wood stock, comfortably seating two to three adults — conservatively rated well above 500 pounds distributed across the seat. The loop form puts more wood under the load than four legs ever do, and there is no leg joint to rack loose.
What wood and finish do you use?
This bench is solid teak, kiln-dried over three slow weeks before carving, hand-sanded, and finished with penetrating oil rather than a film. The wood stays warm to the touch, and a scuff from a boot heel spot-sands and re-oils at home in about ten minutes — no refinisher, no replacement.
Do benches need assembly?
This one ships as a single carved piece — no assembly at all, no hardware bag, no diagrams. Two people carry it in (the weight is the quality talking), set it down, and it is done. That is only possible because it was carved as one piece, not bolted from parts.
How do I keep the seat looking good?
Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry. Entryway benches see boots, road salt, and bags, so refresh the oil once or twice a year — twenty minutes with a cloth — and winter grit never becomes a permanent mark.
How are benches packed for delivery?
Every bench is made to order, wrapped, corner-protected, and boxed or crated by size. We send tracking at dispatch; photograph the carton on arrival and note any damage on the receipt before signing, so any claim is settled fast.
Is the loop shape as stable as a four-legged bench?
Yes. The loop puts a wide, continuous footprint on the floor — more contact than four legs give — and the bench arrives in one carved piece with no joints to loosen. It sits steady on hard floors and rugs alike, with felt pads included for wood and tile.
