Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Floating shelf

A shelf, a line, no brackets showing

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A shelf that floats — and holds its own.

Cut from one solid teak board with the live edge left on, mounted on concealed hardware so nothing but wood shows on the wall. The maker picks each board for a clean face and an edge worth keeping — then sands the underside as carefully as the top, because a floating shelf gets looked at from below.

Most floating shelves are a veneer skin over a hollow box that sags by year two. This one is dense enough to carry a full row of hardcovers and simple enough to take to the next place — one board, two anchors, fifteen minutes. Renters change walls; the shelf stays yours, and every room it lands in reads chosen.

  • Carries a full row of hardcovers without sagging
  • Concealed brackets — nothing on the wall but wood
  • Hangs in a nursery, hall, office, or over a desk
  • Installs in fifteen minutes; template and hardware included
  • Moves to the next apartment in one carry

It fits real homes.

Bedtime, three books

Bedtime, three books

Mounted low in the nursery, tonight's three picture books wait face-out on the shelf. Small hands reach them without help — the hand-sanded live edge smooth under little fingers — and the 7:30 bedtime negotiation starts right there every evening.

Fourth apartment, first hour

Fourth apartment, first hour

Move-in day, landlord-beige walls, boxes stacked to the ceiling. The teak shelf goes up within the first hour — and the fourth apartment in six years starts being theirs before the couch is even placed.

Eight o'clock light

Eight o'clock light

East light crosses the living room wall around eight and catches the live edge first, the oiled grain going amber for an hour. The pothos trailing off one end gets its daily sun right there.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order, and dimensions vary from one to the next. Need a different size for your space? Tell us your measurements and we'll build it to fit.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the full length of the face — and at eye level on a wall, that figure gets read more often than anything else you own.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the top and front edge — a warm satin your fingers register every time a book comes down.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

Roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with about half oak's seasonal movement — the shelf carries a loaded row of hardcovers flat through furnace winters, no slow sag creeping in.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Even beside a sunny window, indoor teak deepens toward amber rather than greying — silvering needs outdoor rain. A light sanding and fresh oil reset the tone whenever you want.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time for a clean face and a live edge worth showing, then kiln-dried for twenty days before the first cut. Twisted stock never makes it.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The shelf is cut slightly proud of the line and mortised for its concealed brackets, leaving material for the handwork on the edge.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Top, underside, and live edge are sanded through five grits — the underside matters too, since a floating shelf is seen from the sofa below it.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks fit on the bracket before the shelf is signed out of the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What are the shelves and brackets made of?
Solid teak board, not a veneer wrapped around a hollow core — which is why it can carry real book weight and be re-sanded for decades. Bracket systems match the design: exposed steel on workshop styles, fully hidden on minimal ones.
Can I order a full set for one wall?
Lengths, depths, and bracket finishes are all made to order. Outfitting a pantry, an office wall, or one long living-room run? Send your list of measurements and we cut each shelf to it — matched from similar boards so the grain reads as a family.
How difficult is installation?
All mounting hardware ships in the box with a paper drilling template. Find studs for book loads; use the supplied heavy-duty anchors elsewhere. Most installs take fifteen minutes with a level and a drill.
What care keeps them looking new?
Dust with a dry cloth and oil the exposed faces once a year — a five-minute wipe, since the finish is penetrating oil, not a film that can chip. If a shelf carries kitchen duty, clear cooking film monthly with a barely damp cloth and dry.
How do they arrive?
Each shelf is made to order and packed flat with corner guards, hardware bagged and taped to the shelf back. Tracking is emailed at dispatch; if a carton arrives crushed, photograph it before opening and we make it right.
Is this shelf safe for a nursery wall?
Yes, mounted properly. Anchor into at least one stud, keep heavier objects toward the bracket points, and mount above crib-reach height. The live edge is hand-sanded smooth — no splinters, no sharp corners — and the natural oil finish has no lacquer smell and nothing to off-gas.
