Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Floating shelf

One board, ten inches, any wall

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A single shelf that gives a blank wall a purpose.

Each shelf is one solid teak board, about ten inches square, finished on every face because a floating shelf is seen from below as often as above. No hollow torsion box, no veneer wrap — the maker selects the board for calm grain, sands it through five grits, and oils it until the surface glows.

One shelf holds the reading lamp by the bed; three in a row carry the everyday mugs above the counter. A floating shelf is the cheapest way to test whether a blank wall can earn its keep — and this one is the detail a guest reaches out to touch, the moment you get to say each board was picked and finished by hand.

  • Ten-inch depth carries books, dishes, plants, or framed photos
  • Concealed bracket makes the board grow from the wall
  • Sold per piece; run two or three across a wall
  • Solid teak stands up to steamy kitchens and baths
  • Finished on all faces, including the underside you see daily

It fits real homes.

Mugs within reach

Mugs within reach

Two shelves over the coffee station, four favorite mugs on each. The first pour of the morning happens without opening a single cabinet door, and the teak warms a shade in the window light while the machine hisses.

The bedside upgrade

The bedside upgrade

No room for a nightstand on that side of the bed. One shelf at mattress height carries the glasses, the phone, and the paperback with a receipt still marking chapter nine — everything a hand finds in the dark without looking.

A gallery, one square

A gallery, one square

The kid's clay bowl from art class sits alone on its own shelf in the hall, lit by the four o'clock sun and presented like it came from a museum. Because in this house, it did.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs across the shelf face — the calm figure that lets a floating board read as one clean line on the wall, no busy figure fighting whatever you set on top.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the top and front edge, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin that never feels like plastic and shrugs off a steamy kitchen or bath.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any hardwood, the board stays flat on the wall through every season — twenty days in a controlled kiln finished its moving before it was ever cut.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

By a sunny window, teak drifts toward a refined silver-grey — a surface change only. A light sanding and fresh oil bring the shelf back to gold whenever you want the warm tone again.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time for flat, calm figure that reads clean on a wall. Twisted or checked stock never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

Each shelf is cut square and true, slightly proud of the line, leaving material for the handwork that softens every visible edge.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

All six faces are sanded through successive grits — a floating shelf is seen from below, so the underside gets the same care as the top.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks flatness and finish before the shelf is signed out of the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

Are the shelves solid or hollow inside?
Every shelf in this collection is solid wood front to back — full-thickness stock, not a hollow torsion box — finished on all faces so the grain shows from below as well as above.
What sizes can I order?
Lengths are cut to order, from a 12-inch accent to a 72-inch span. Depth adjusts too: six inches for frames and spices, ten or more for books and dishes.
What is included for mounting?
Concealed steel brackets and hardware ship with every shelf, sized to its length. Anchor into studs for book loads; the included heavy-duty anchors handle lighter styling on drywall.
How do I care for them?
Dust with a dry cloth and rotate displayed objects now and then so sunlight tones the wood evenly. A wipe of oil once a year keeps the front edge rich — the whole job takes five minutes and no products beyond the oil.
How are shelves packed?
Shelves are made to order, wrapped individually, and shipped in rigid cartons with brackets and template packed alongside. Tracking is emailed the day your order leaves the workshop.
Is the listed price for one shelf or a set?
The price is for one shelf, at a standard 10-inch width and depth. Many customers order two or three at once — sets ordered together are cut from matching stock so the grain and tone run as a family.
