Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Handcrafted solid wood · Floating shelf

Solid wood, floating clean off the wall

The piece

One board. Not a box of air.

Rap a knuckle on most floating shelves and they answer like a drum — a thin veneer skin folded around a hollow core, rated for picture frames and hope. This is the other kind: one solid teak board, planed flat, sanded through five grits, and oiled on every face, including the one against the wall.

Solid is why it can work in the living room for decades. Load it with real hardcovers. Sand out the scuff from the decade's third repaint. A hollow shelf gets one chipped corner and shows you the cardboard; this one just shows more teak.

  • One solid teak board — no hollow core, no veneer wrap
  • Steel rods seat deep in the board and lag into studs
  • Holds a full run of hardcovers without the year-two sag
  • Oiled on every face, including the one against the wall
  • Turns hallways and stair walls into working space

It fits real homes.

Cookbooks at arm's reach

The four cookbooks that actually get used live spine-out above the counter. Tuesday night one comes down with a floury hand at step three and goes back before the timer sounds — the whole reference library, one reach from the stove.

7:40, out the door

7:40 on a school morning. Keys, sunglasses, the field-trip form signed at 11 p.m. — all swept off the shelf by the door in one pass. Thirty seconds later the house is empty, and the shelf is already reloaded for 3:30.

December mantel duty

In an apartment with no fireplace, the shelf takes December: three stockings on hooks, the cards standing in a row, one small lit tree at the end. In January it hands the wall back like nothing happened.

Teak, up close.

The grain

Honey and amber bands run the length of each plank. No two boards repeat, so your piece is the only one with this pattern.

The oils

Teak grows its own protective oils, and they carry the wood through dry winters and humid summers that crack lesser boards. Spills just need wiping up promptly.

The weight

Lift a corner and you feel dense, solid stock with no hollow frames or fillers. Kiln-dried before the build, it sits flat and stays put, even when the heat comes on.

The years ahead

Teak deepens toward a richer brown as it lives with you. A wipe of teak oil twice a year holds the tone you chose.

From plank to piece.

Select

Planks graded by practiced eyes, then kiln-dried slowly until they settle.

Mill

Each board cut, squared, and matched to the pattern.

Shape

Joined and eased with hand tools after the machines have done the rough work.

Finish

Sanded fine, then oiled until the grain reads deep.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

Are the shelves solid or hollow inside?
Every shelf in this collection is solid wood front to back — full-thickness stock, not a hollow torsion box — finished on all faces so the grain shows from below as well as above.
What sizes can I order?
Lengths are cut to order, from a 12-inch accent to a 72-inch span. Depth adjusts too: six inches for frames and spices, ten or more for books and dishes.
What is included for mounting?
Concealed steel brackets and hardware ship with every shelf, sized to its length. Anchor into studs for book loads; the included heavy-duty anchors handle lighter styling on drywall.
How do I care for them?
Dust with a dry cloth and rotate displayed objects occasionally so sunlight tones the wood evenly. A wipe of oil once a year keeps the front edge rich.
How are shelves packed?
Shelves are made to order, wrapped individually, and shipped in rigid cartons with brackets and template packed alongside. Tracking is emailed the day your order leaves the workshop.
How much weight will it really hold?
Anchored into two wall studs as directed, a solid board on deep-set steel rods carries a full run of hardcovers — and books are the heavy case, at roughly twenty pounds per running foot. The limit is almost always the wall, not the teak. On masonry, use rated expansion anchors; on plaster or hollow walls, send a photo to support@timbervintique.com before you drill and we will talk it through.
Is it actually solid wood? Most floating shelves are hollow.
Most are — a veneer skin around a honeycomb core, which is why they sound like a drum and sag by year two. Yours is one solid teak board, kiln-dried for twenty days before it was ever cut, then planed, sanded, and oiled on all faces. Two checks on delivery day: the weight when you lift the box, and the grain running through the end, because the end is the same wood as the face.
