Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Wall floating shelf

One solid teak board, edge and all

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A shelf that keeps the edge the tree gave it.

Each shelf starts as one solid teak board chosen for a live edge worth keeping — full thickness front to back, no veneer skin and no hollow torsion box over a plywood core. The designer sizes the ten-by-twelve-inch footprint to sit close to the wall; the artisan planes the top flat, then sands the raw edge until it feels like river stone.

Most wall shelves are a printed skin over MDF that chips at the first knock and can never be sanded. This one you refinish for decades — the teak is kiln-dried twenty days before cutting, so it holds flat on a hallway wall instead of cupping. Hang it, load the books you actually reread, and know the wood goes all the way through.

  • Need an entry drop-zone? Keys and mail, no floor lost.
  • Want books in reach? One tidy row at eye level.
  • Nowhere for plants? Set them where the light lands.
  • Clear the dresser: frames float off the furniture.
  • Dead corner or narrow wall? Fits where others fail.

It fits real homes.

The hallway ledge

The hallway ledge

7:40 on a school morning. House keys, the day's mail, and the framed lake photo land on the ledge by the door while one kid grabs a granola bar and goes. The clutter stops here instead of spreading down the hall, and no floor space was spent to do it.

A corner put to work

A corner put to work

That dead corner past the window finally earns its keep. A trailing pothos sits on top, and by nine on a Saturday the low morning sun rakes across the live edge below, lighting every ripple the tree left in the grain.

Ten spines, one row

Ten spines, one row

The books you actually reread live here, at eye level over the reading chair. Sunday at four, the lamp warm, you tip one spine out with a finger and the oiled grain catches the light. One row, ten spines, no bookcase eating the floor.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the full length of the shelf face — the calm figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name. Run a thumb across it and the growth lines are something you feel, not only see.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the top and live edge, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin — it arrives smelling faintly of the woodshop, never of chemicals or fresh lacquer.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any hardwood, this shelf stays flat when winter forced-air heat drops the room toward fifteen-percent humidity — the season that cups lesser wood.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Left alone in a sun-facing spot, teak eases toward a soft silver-grey — a surface change only, never damage. A light sanding and fresh oil bring the gold back in an afternoon, whenever you want it.

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards come off a twenty-day kiln cycle, then get pulled one at a time for a live edge worth showing. Stock with twist, checks, or dull figure never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The shelf is cut slightly proud of its line on the bandsaw, the natural edge left intact while the back is trued dead flat so it sits tight to the wall.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Top and edge are sanded by hand through five grits until the bark line feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks flatness, hidden-bracket fit, and finish before the shelf is wrapped and shipped.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What sets these shelves apart?
Each is one solid teak board, full thickness and finished on every face — no veneer skin, no hollow core, no MDF to chip. That is why you can sand out a scuff and re-oil it years from now; a printed shelf can never be refinished.
How precise can the sizing be?
Every shelf is cut to order: length to the inch, depth to the job — six inches for frames, ten for books, twelve for kitchen dishes. Sets are cut from matching stock.
What holds them to the wall?
A concealed steel bracket ships sized to each shelf's span. Anchored into studs it holds a full row of hardcovers; the included wall anchors carry frames and plants on plain drywall. Nothing shows from the front — just a clean line of teak.
What ongoing care is needed?
Wipe with a dry cloth and re-oil the front edge once a year — the strip hands and sunlight reach first. In a dry forced-air winter the wood may look thirsty sooner; a ten-minute oiling is the whole job.
How are they packed for transit?
Shelves are made to order, individually wrapped, and shipped in rigid cartons with bracket, template, and hardware included. Tracking is sent as the order leaves the workshop.
Is the listed price for one shelf or a set?
The price covers one shelf at the standard ten-by-twelve-inch footprint, live edge included. Corner versions and multi-shelf sets are quoted from the same matching teak stock — just ask.
