Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Farmhouse floating shelf

One live-edge board, hung anywhere

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

One honest board, hung where the day happens.

Each shelf is a full-thickness teak board with its natural edge left as the tree grew it, dried twenty days in a controlled kiln so it hangs flat above a stove or a tub instead of cupping in the heat. The proportions are deliberately plain so the wood carries the design — no distressing, no barn-door signifiers. The top is flattened and the live edge hand-sanded until it invites a passing finger.

In a farmhouse kitchen the shelf everyone lands at is the one doing real work, and open storage only earns its place if it holds up to daily reaching. This one does: solid teak that shrugs off steam and grease, no hollow ledge to bow under a stack of plates. It is the shelf people brush a hand along on the way past, and the one they ask about when they finally stop.

  • Kitchen storage? Open shelving for mugs, jars, cookbooks
  • Bathroom steam? It handles it beside the tub or sink
  • See a bracket? No — only wood shows on the wall
  • Long wall? Run several down a hallway for rhythm
  • Single shelf? The live edge makes even one read as decor

It fits real homes.

Pancake Saturdays

Pancake Saturdays

Sunday, 9 a.m., batter on at least one cabinet knob. The flour jar, the syrup, and four mismatched mugs live on the kitchen shelf, reached for in the same order every week. By ten the counter is wiped back to calm like the chaos never happened.

The towel shelf

The towel shelf

Above the tub, rolled towels and a sprig of eucalyptus sit on the live edge. Steam rises past the teak every night and the wood only grows warmer for it — the same wood the gym steam room trusts, doing quiet work at home.

Nursery night watch

Nursery night watch

3 a.m., the only light from the streetlamp. The sound machine, the night-light, and one worn stuffed rabbit hold the shelf by the crib. Everything the middle-of-the-night shift needs sits one quiet, blind reach away.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the length of every board — the calm figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name, deep enough that a finger finds it under a kitchen light.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. Artisans hand-rub more into the top and live edge, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin — a surface that smells of wood on delivery day and holds up to grease and steam without a film to peel.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any hardwood, the shelf stays flat and level through daily bathroom steam and the humidity swings a working kitchen lives with.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Left outdoors, teak weathers to a refined silver-grey — a surface change only. Indoors it warms toward honey instead, and a light sanding and fresh oil bring the edge back to gold anytime you choose.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time by a thirty-year selector for a natural edge worth keeping. Stock with twist, hidden checks, or dull figure never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

Each shelf is cut slightly proud of its final line, preserving the live edge for the handwork that gives it its profile.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The top and natural edge are sanded by hand through five successive grits until the contour feels right against an open palm — no splinter where a hand brushes past.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks level, bracket seating, and finish before the shelf ships.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What sets these shelves apart?
These shelves are milled from full-thickness solid teak, finished on every face, and built to read as a clean line of wood on the wall — no visible brackets, no hollow core to sag. The edge sands and re-oils for years, which a veneer ledge cannot survive once.
How precise can the sizing be?
Every shelf is cut to order: length to the inch, depth to the job — six inches for frames, ten for books, twelve for kitchen dishes. Because it is built after you order, the size is yours; sets are cut from matching stock.
What holds them to the wall?
A hidden steel bracket ships with each shelf, sized to its span. Anchor into studs for heavy loads like stacked plates; the included anchors carry frames and plants on plain drywall. Nothing but wood shows from below.
What ongoing care is needed?
Wipe with a dry cloth and re-oil the front edge yearly — it is the surface hands, steam, and sunlight find first. A loaded shelf appreciates an occasional check of the mounting screws; a scratch spot-sands out in minutes.
How are they packed for transit?
Shelves are made to order, individually wrapped, and shipped in rigid cartons with bracket, template, and hardware included. Tracking is sent as the order leaves the workshop; photograph the carton before signing if it looks crushed.
Is the price for one shelf, and what size is this build?
The listed price covers one shelf. This build measures 10 inches wide by 12 inches deep — enough for stacked plates or rolled towels. Because the live edge is natural, each shelf differs slightly from the photos, which is the proof it is one of one; order a set and we cut from matching stock.
