Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Handcrafted solid wood · Shoe bench

Sit down, lace up, head out

The piece

The hardest-working seat in the house.

An entry bench gets sat on hard, stood on to reach the closet shelf, and loaded with wet boots five months a year — exactly the duty that racks a cam-bolt bench loose by spring. This one is solid teak joined wood to wood, seat height drawn for actual sitting, every edge eased where hands and the backs of knees land.

In the entryway it ends the one-foot hop. Shoes go below, keys land on top, and there is finally a real seat while laces get tied. When a commuter drops onto it with full morning weight at 7:40, the bench answers with silence instead of a creak.

  • Seat height drawn for pulling on winter boots
  • Low shelf drains and dries wet pairs off the floor
  • Top catches keys, mail, gloves, and the dog leash
  • Teak's own oils shrug off slush and wet soles
  • No cam bolts to rack loose under daily sitting

It fits real homes.

Seven-forty a.m.

7:40 on a school morning. Three kids, six shoes, one bench, and everyone gets a turn to sit. The bus is caught for the third day straight — a household record.

October cleats

October soccer means cleats caked to the laces. They land on the low shelf, not the hallway floor, and by Saturday's 9 am game they are dry and ready again.

The runner's bench

5:50 am, house dark, 28 degrees on the phone. Laces double-knotted by feel, the debate about going at all held right here. The bench takes the weight and casts the deciding vote.

Teak, up close.

The grain

Honey and amber bands run the length of each plank. No two boards repeat, so your piece is the only one with this pattern.

The oils

Teak grows its own protective oils, and they carry the wood through dry winters and humid summers that crack lesser boards. Spills just need wiping up promptly.

The weight

Lift a corner and you feel dense, solid stock with no hollow frames or fillers. Kiln-dried before the build, it sits flat and stays put, even when the heat comes on.

The years ahead

Teak deepens toward a richer brown as it lives with you. A wipe of teak oil twice a year holds the tone you chose.

From plank to piece.

Select

Planks graded by practiced eyes, then kiln-dried slowly until they settle.

Mill

Each board cut, squared, and matched to the pattern.

Shape

Joined and eased with hand tools after the machines have done the rough work.

Finish

Sanded fine, then oiled until the grain reads deep.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What is a shoe bench built to do?
Shoe benches in this collection are solid wood with a seat rated for a grown adult dropping down to tie laces, plus a slatted shelf below that lets wet shoes dry.
What widths do you make?
Widths are made to order — a 30-inch bench for a couple's entry, 48 inches for a family mudroom with a shelf per row of shoes. Tell us your hallway.
Does it arrive ready to use?
Benches arrive fully assembled and rated conservatively above 300 pounds, so sitting, standing kids, and dropped gym bags are all within an ordinary day's work.
How do I keep it clean by the door?
Wipe grit off the shelf weekly in winter — trapped sand is what wears a finish fastest. A damp cloth and a yearly oiling handle everything else.
How is it shipped?
Each shoe bench is made to order, wrapped, corner-protected, and boxed for parcel or light freight. Tracking is emailed to you as your order leaves the workshop.
Can two adults actually sit on it at once?
Yes — the seat is solid teak boards on wood-to-wood joinery, the same construction as a dining bench, not a veneered panel on cam bolts. Two adults side by side is routine use, not a stress test. Each product page lists that design's exact dimensions and weight in pounds, and the pounds are worth reading — solid shows up on a scale.
Will wet, salty winter boots wreck the finish?
Slush is the job description. Teak carries its own oils and silica — the reason it decked ships — and the hand-oiled surface wipes clean where lacquer would whiten and peel. Let boots drain on the shelf, wipe standing puddles by morning, and rinse road-salt residue off with mild soap and water. Re-oil once a year and the seat holds its color.
