Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Standing coat rack

Coats hang on real limbs here

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A standing tree by the door, with branches that work for a living.

Each rack begins as a branching teak trunk, chosen for the way its limbs fan out at hanging height. It spends twenty days in the kiln — heat that ends the wood's moving and destroys any insect in it — then the designer balances the stance so it plants firmly, and the artisan trims each branch end, sands the trunk by hand, and works oil deep into the grain.

You cannot drill the walls of a rental you will leave in a year, and a wobbling metal stand tips when a winter coat lands on it. This one is freestanding solid teak, weighted to hold a loaded stance and light enough to carry to the next place. Even buried under wool it keeps its shape as a tree — the one honest thing in a beige entry that the lease did not choose.

  • Natural limbs hold coats, hats, scarves, and bags
  • Freestanding — no drilling, moves with every lease
  • Branch heights suit adults and kids alike
  • Stands as sculpture even with nothing hanging
  • Solid teak takes damp winter jackets in stride

It fits real homes.

Seven-forty, out the door

Seven-forty, out the door

Three jackets come off three branches in fifteen seconds — the school-run shuffle. By four they are back on the same limbs, each kid claiming theirs by height without a word, the base never rocking under the grab.

Dinner-party coats

Dinner-party coats

Eight guests, one December night, and the rack disappears under wool and scarves. At midnight it hands everything back unwrinkled, and someone asks where you found a tree that works this hard.

The off-season

The off-season

In July the coats are gone and the rack keeps its post anyway — bare branches, a straw hat on the top limb, more sculpture than storage until the weather turns and the wool comes back.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain climbs the trunk and out each hanging limb — the calm, consistent figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name, warm under an entry lamp.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the trunk and branch ends, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin that never feels like plastic under a grabbed coat.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any hardwood, each limb carries a wet winter coat without complaint or creep.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Near a bright doorway, teak drifts toward silver-grey over years — a surface change only, paper-thin. A light sanding and fresh oil bring the trunk back to gold anytime.

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Branching trunks are chosen one at a time for stance and limb spread, then kiln-dried until the meter reads done. Wood with splits, rot, or dull figure never becomes a rack.

The shaping process

The shaping process

Each limb is trimmed slightly proud of its final length — material left for the handwork that rounds every branch end a coat will meet.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The trunk and every branch are sanded by hand through successive grits until no edge can catch a coat lining or a sleeve.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks the stance, base, and finish before the rack is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

Are the racks really shaped like trees?
Each tree coat rack is shaped from solid teak — some from single branching trunks — sanded smooth and finished so coats hang on real limbs rather than plastic pegs. There is no hollow tube to dent and no veneer to peel where sleeves rub.
What heights and branch counts are available?
Heights and branch counts are made to order. A six-foot rack with eight branches handles a family entry; slimmer builds suit apartments. Each one differs slightly because each trunk grew its own way, on purpose.
How does it stay upright under a load of coats?
Racks arrive in one or two sections that thread together in minutes. The weighted base keeps things planted under a full load of winter wool; a discreet wall strap is included for busy households and enthusiastic kids.
How do I care for it?
Dust the branches with a dry cloth and let wet coats drip on a mat first when you can. A yearly wipe of oil keeps the trunk rich, and a scuff from a zipper spot-sands and re-oils at home rather than needing a refinisher.
How is a tall piece like this shipped?
Every rack is made to order and shipped in a tall padded carton with the base packed at the bottom. Tracking follows by email the day it leaves; photograph the carton if it arrives crushed and write support@timbervintique.com.
Will my rack's branches match the photos?
Not exactly — each rack is built from a natural branching trunk, so the limb angles and curves of yours are its own. Branch count and overall height are matched to what you order, and the difference is what makes it a one-of-one.
