Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Floating shelf

One carved line across the wall

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A shelf that earns the wall before it holds a single book.

The sculpted face began as sketches of moving water; our designers refined the curves until they read from across a room. Each shelf is then cut from full-thickness teak — not a hollow torsion box wrapped in veneer that sags by year two — and carved by hand so the flow of the surface follows the flow of the grain.

The walls change every lease; this does not. It goes up on two concealed brackets, carries the books you actually reach for, and comes down in five minutes when the truck arrives for the next apartment. Landlord-beige drywall around it, and still the first thing in the room that is unmistakably yours.

  • Will it sag under hardcovers? Full-thickness teak — no hollow box
  • Concealed steel bracket; the wall shows only wood
  • Into studs, it holds a full run of books
  • Carved face carries the wall even half empty
  • Renters: two screw holes is the entire footprint left behind

It fits real homes.

The reading rotation

The reading rotation

Sunday, 4 pm, lamp on early. The three books in progress live here, spines out, an arm's reach from the chair. Finished ones move on; the carved shelf keeps the current shortlist honest, one quiet hour at a time.

A ledge for the year

A ledge for the year

8:58 on a Tuesday morning, laptop open below it. On camera the shelf reads as one calm line of wood and three good objects — and a coworker asks about the carving before the meeting starts.

Light on the carving

Light on the carving

Fourth apartment in six years, move-in day. Within an hour of the truck leaving, the shelf is up and level, the room smelling faintly of oiled teak instead of cardboard. Now the place starts being theirs.

Every piece is made to order, and dimensions vary from one to the next. Need a different size for your space? Tell us your measurements and we'll build it to fit.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the length of the shelf, so the hand-carved curves move across a calm figure — trace one with a fingertip and it flows unbroken from end to end.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the sculpted face, and under an evening lamp the low sheen catches in the hollows — warm satin, never the plastic shine of a coated board.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, kiln-dried until the moisture meter says done, the shelf stays flat and level under a full row of hardcovers — through August humidity and January furnace air alike.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

On a wall with strong daily sun, teak's surface drifts slowly toward silver-grey; out of it, the honey tone only deepens year over year. A light sanding and a rag of oil bring the carved face back to gold anytime.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time for straight grain and clean figure, then checked off the kiln with a moisture meter — stock with twist, checks, or dull color never becomes a shelf.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The wave contours are traced onto the blank, then cut slightly proud of the line, leaving material for the carving that gives each curve its profile.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The sculpted face and front edge are sanded by hand through five grits until every curve feels continuous against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks flatness against a straightedge, test-fits the brackets, and inspects the finish before it ships.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

Are the shelves solid or hollow inside?
Solid teak front to back — full-thickness stock, not a hollow torsion box wrapped in veneer. Knock on it and it answers solid. It is finished on all faces, so the grain shows from below as well as above, and it can be re-sanded for decades.
What sizes can I order?
Lengths are cut to order, from a 12-inch accent to a 72-inch span. Depth adjusts too: six inches for frames and spices, ten or more for books and dishes. Measure the wall first — made to order means the shelf fits the space, not the other way around.
Does the sculpted surface reduce usable space?
No. The top stays flat and level for books, frames, and plants; the hand-carved flow lives on the face the room actually sees. You lose nothing to the sculpture.
What is included for mounting?
Concealed steel brackets, hardware, and a drilling template ship with every shelf, sized to its length. Anchor into studs for book loads; the included heavy-duty anchors handle lighter styling on drywall. Renters take note: two screw holes is the entire footprint you leave behind.
How do I care for them?
Dust with a dry cloth and rotate displayed objects occasionally so sunlight tones the wood evenly. A wipe of oil once a year keeps the carved face rich — ten minutes, no ladder tricks, and any scratch spot-sands out the same afternoon.
How are shelves packed?
Shelves are made to order, wrapped individually, and shipped in rigid cartons with brackets and drilling template packed alongside. Tracking is emailed the day your order leaves the workshop — and the box opens on the smell of oiled teak, not solvent.
