Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Floor lamp

Lamplight through hand-carved teak

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A column of teak that breathes light through carved openings.

The designers set the column's height against a sofa's sightline, then placed each carved cutout so light leaves in bands instead of glare. An artisan joins solid teak blocks — no veneer sleeve over a metal tube — carves the twisting form by hand, sands the openings smooth, and wires it complete with its bulb.

Apartment light is one harsh overhead you did not choose. This column is the correction: a warm lantern at sofa height, sculpture when it is off, and yours in a way the lease never is. The blocks spent twenty days in a temperature-controlled kiln first, so the tall column stands straight when radiator heat dries the room into the twenties all January. It moves to the next apartment ahead of the couch.

  • Bands of warm light replace the overhead glare after dark
  • Slim upright footprint fits the corner a bookcase cannot
  • Reads as finished sculpture in daylight, switched off
  • Arrives wired and tested, bulb included — you add the outlet plug
  • One switch lights an evening without a single overhead on

It fits real homes.

Five o'clock dark

Five o'clock dark

Mid-December, dark outside by 4:45. One switch and the carved openings band the wall in warm light while the radiator ticks — the apartment decides it is evening on its own terms, hours before bedtime.

Fourth-floor walkup

Fourth-floor walkup

Fourth lease in six years, landlord-beige walls again, move-in boxes still taped shut. The lamp comes out of the crate first, heavy enough to want two hands, and claims its corner within the hour — the one warm thing in the room that the landlord does not own.

The last chapter

The last chapter

Eleven-twenty on a weeknight, everyone else asleep. The column holds a low glow over the chair, oiled grain warm in its own light, while the rest of the apartment goes dark around one reader.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order, and dimensions vary from one to the next. Need a different size for your space? Tell us your measurements and we'll build it to fit.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain climbs the full height of the column, and under the bulb it reads calm instead of busy — a low satin sheen in the evening, never a plastic shine.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the carved surfaces and cutout edges, so the box opens smelling faintly of wood, never lacquer, and the golden tone deepens when the bulb comes on.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with shrinkage about half that of oak, the tall column stands planted through February, when forced-air heat drops indoor humidity into the twenties.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the column will not silver — that takes outdoor sun and rain together. Expect a slow deepening toward honey-amber, a shade warmer near a bright window; a light sanding and fresh oil reset the tone whenever you choose.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Stock is pulled one piece at a time for a column that must read clean from every side, then checked against the moisture meter. Twisted or dull figure never makes it.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The twisting profile and open cutouts are traced from templates, then cut slightly proud of the line — a pencil's width of extra material left for the carving to come.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Every cutout edge is sanded through five grits, coarse to fine, until the openings feel as smooth inside as the column does outside.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each with a cotton pad. The maker wires the socket, fits the bulb, and burns it in before sign-out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the lamps made and wired?
Each lamp base in this collection is shaped from solid wood — no veneer sleeve, no hollow core — and wired with UL-listed components for US outlets. Tap the column and it sounds solid, because it is.
Can I adjust the height or shade?
Base height and shade pairing can be adjusted when you order, because every lamp is built after the order is placed — a taller build for a console corner, a compact one for a nightstand. Send the spot's measurements and we match the proportions.
What bulb does it take?
This lamp arrives fully wired with a bulb already included and tested at the workshop. A power plug is not attached, so you fit the plug that matches your outlet — a five-minute job with basic tools or a quick errand for any electrician.
Any care advice?
Dust the base with a dry cloth and wipe a little oil in once a year, when the wood looks thirsty. Keep the column a couple of feet from radiators and heat vents — constant one-sided heat is hard on any wood, oiled teak included.
How do lamps ship?
Every lamp is made to order, then packed in a foam-fitted box with the shade boxed separately when included. Tracking is emailed the day it leaves, and if anything arrives damaged, photograph the box and write support@timbervintique.com — we make it right.
