Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Floating shelf

One carved teak wave on the wall

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

Storage that reads as one drawn line on the wall.

Our designers redrew this wave until it flowed cleanly from end to end at any viewing angle — no dead spots, no forced symmetry. Each 25-inch shelf is then cut from one solid teak board — no torsion box, no veneer skin — dried through three slow weeks in the kiln so the curve you hang is the curve you keep through furnace winters and humid Augusts.

Renters know the arithmetic: four apartments in six years and nothing on the walls worth taking down. This shelf is two drilled holes and a lifetime of moves — off the bracket, into a blanket, anchoring the next place within the hour. The wave becomes the one line on the wall the landlord did not choose, and it comes with you when the lease ends.

  • Solid teak full thickness — sand and re-oil for decades
  • Concealed steel bracket, so it reads as one floating line
  • Two screws into studs; it comes along to the next lease
  • Twenty-five-inch span fits above sofas, desks, and headboards
  • Sets cut from matching boards read as one composition

It fits real homes.

The 8:58 backdrop

The 8:58 backdrop

Tuesday, two minutes before the video call. The wave rides the wall behind the desk chair — one trailing pothos, three spines, nothing to tidy. A coworker asks about the curve before the agenda starts, and the meeting begins on the host's terms.

First-Sunday rotation

First-Sunday rotation

The first Sunday of each month, one framed photo comes down and a new print goes up. A dust cloth follows the curve in one pass — twelve small ceremonies a year, and the wall never stops feeling current.

Lamplight at nine

Lamplight at nine

When the overheads go off and the reading lamp takes over, its light rakes the oiled crest and throws a slow shadow down the wall. For an hour every night, the low sheen of the grain is the quietest show in the room.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the full length of the shelf, so the hand-shaped wave moves across calm figure — trace the curve with a finger and the grain never once interrupts it.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils — the box opens with a faint leather-and-pepper scent, not a chemical one. We hand-rub more oil into the curved face, deepening the gold to a warm satin under lamplight.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with about half the seasonal movement of oak, the shelf stays flat and level under a loaded span — through 20% winter humidity and muggy Augusts alike.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

In strong daily sun teak drifts toward silver-grey — a paper-thin surface change only. A light sanding and fresh oil bring the wave back to gold in an afternoon, whenever you choose.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Teak boards are pulled one at a time and matched by tone across a set, each already through its slow kiln cycle. Stock with twist, checks, or dull figure never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The wave is traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — leaving a pencil-width of material for the handwork that gives the curve its final profile.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The curved face and edges are sanded by hand through successive grits until the wave feels right against an open palm, not merely looks right.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each until the sheen sits low and even. The maker checks flatness, bracket fit, and finish before the shelf is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

Are the shelves solid or hollow inside?
Every shelf in this collection is solid wood front to back — full-thickness stock, not a hollow torsion box. Tap it and it will not sound hollow; scratch it in year five and it sands out and re-oils, which no veneered box survives once the print layer is breached.
What sizes can I order?
Lengths are cut to order, from a 12-inch accent to a 72-inch span. Depth adjusts too: six inches carries frames and spices, ten or more takes books and dishes. Measure the wall first — made to order means the shelf fits the space, not the reverse.
What is included for mounting?
Concealed steel brackets and hardware ship with every shelf, sized to its length. For book loads — hardcovers run around 20 pounds per running foot — anchor into studs; the included heavy-duty anchors handle lighter styling on drywall.
How do I care for them?
Dust with a dry cloth and rotate displayed objects occasionally so sunlight tones the wood evenly. A wipe of oil once a year keeps the front edge rich — a five-minute job with a rag, and the finish spot-repairs instead of failing in sheets the way a film finish does.
How are shelves packed?
Shelves are made to order, wrapped individually, and shipped in rigid cartons with brackets and drilling template packed alongside. Tracking is emailed the day your order leaves the workshop, and if a carton arrives crushed, photograph it before opening and write support@timbervintique.com.
Is the listed price for one shelf or a set?
The price is for a single shelf. Many customers order two or three and stagger them; sets are cut from matching teak stock so grain and tone read as a family on the wall — something assembled one shelf at a time from different runs cannot promise.
