Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid walnut · Corner floating shelf

Walnut for the corner you forgot

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

The quietest square foot in the room, finally working.

Every corner shelf is cut from a single piece of walnut, so the chocolate grain wraps the angle without a seam or a stain hiding a joint. The board is kiln-dried until the moisture meter reads done, so it holds its line through a heated winter rather than cupping one leg. Each side runs ten inches along both walls, hand-sanded on every visible face until the front edge asks to be touched.

It claims the one spot furniture never reaches — the meeting of two walls, where renters and homeowners alike lose square footage to nothing. A plant, a small lamp, a favorite object, and the dead corner becomes the detail guests point out first when they walk the room. Solid walnut, not a veneer triangle, so it can be sanded and re-oiled long after a laminate shelf would have chipped through.

  • Dead corner? It becomes display space at eye level
  • No room for a nightstand? It stands in, tight bedrooms
  • Desk crowded? Holds a plant, small lamp, or speaker
  • Visible seam? None — the grain wraps the corner
  • Want height? Stack two or three into a floating column

It fits real homes.

The fern's corner

The fern's corner

The corner by the east window belonged to nothing for years. Now a fern sits at eye level on the walnut, catching the 8 a.m. light, and the living room finally reads finished instead of half-furnished around a blank angle.

The no-nightstand fix

The no-nightstand fix

The bed sits too close to the wall for a real nightstand, so the corner shelf carries the essentials — glasses, phone, the half-read novel — right where a hand lands in the dark at 3 a.m. without knocking anything over.

Desk corner duty

Desk corner duty

8:58 on a work morning, above the desk in the corner the monitor cannot use. The shelf holds the headphones, a small clock, and one framed photo — everything the day needs within reach, nothing crowding the keyboard.

Teak, up close.

No two boards alike

Straight grain broken by curls, waves, and darker mineral streaks wraps the corner of each shelf — chocolate tones that come from the tree itself, never from a stain sprayed to fake depth. In a west window the figure warms a shade over its first year.

No two boards alike

A hand-rubbed depth

A simple oil finish is all walnut asks. The shelf's top and front edge polish to a smooth, lustrous depth that pulls a hand across almost involuntarily — and arrives smelling of wood, not of lacquer curing in the box.

A hand-rubbed depth

Gunstock toughness

At about 1,010 on the Janka scale, the shelf absorbs the knocks of daily loading without turning brittle in a dry-heat winter — the same resilience that kept walnut in rifle stocks for a century.

Gunstock toughness

Mellows, never fades

The shelf settles into a warmer, more personal patina with each year of light and use, growing softer in tone rather than tired. Keep it a couple of feet from a heat vent and one leg will not lighten faster than the other.

Mellows, never fades

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

A selector with thirty years at the stacks pulls walnut boards one at a time for figure worth showing at eye level. Stock with twist, hidden checks, or dull color never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The corner is traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the handwork that trues the angle to the wall.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Top, edges, and underside are sanded by hand through five successive grits until the front edge feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks the corner's fit, level, and finish before the shelf ships.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How is a corner shelf made?
Each corner shelf is cut from a single piece of solid wood and finished on every visible face, so the grain wraps the corner cleanly instead of meeting at a mismatched veneer seam. Solid stock means the front edge can be sanded and re-oiled for years.
Can the two sides be different lengths?
Yes — leg lengths on each side of the corner can differ. Order a 12-by-12 for a plant, or a 24-by-16 to run along two walls. Custom cuts are standard practice here, because each shelf is made after you order it.
How does it mount without visible brackets?
Concealed corner brackets and hardware are included. The bracket seats into both walls, so the shelf floats with no visible support — anchor into a stud on at least one side for heavier loads, and nothing but walnut shows once it is up.
Anything special about caring for it?
Dust with a dry cloth and keep it a couple of feet from strong window sun, which can tone one leg faster than the other. A yearly oiling evens everything out, and a scratch spot-sands away in minutes — no refinisher needed.
How do corner shelves ship?
Corner shelves ship made to order in compact, padded boxes with the bracket and drilling template packed alongside. Tracking is sent as soon as the box leaves the workshop; check the box before signing if it looks knocked around.
What size is this shelf, and is the price for one piece?
This build runs 10 inches along each wall, and the listed price covers one shelf. It is cut in walnut, with some builds pairing walnut and teak for contrast — order several together and we match the boards so the set reads as a family, never matchy or flat.
