Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

The first piece of furniture your house offers anyone.

Thirty-two inches wide, eighteen tall, fourteen deep — proportions the designers worked out for real entryways, where every inch is spoken for. Each bench is made to order from solid teak, its corners carrying a lively natural edge, shaped and sanded entirely by hand. Full-thickness wood joined to take a grown adult dropping down onto it, not a laminate box.

An entry bench earns its keep at the worst-behaved moment of the day, when four people leave at once. This one is dried twenty days before a cut and joined to sit dead solid, so it takes the weight without the wobble a flat-pack bench grows into by spring. Guests sit to untie their shoes and notice the edge under a hand; the owner notices the hallway finally has order, and something worth looking at.

  • A solid seat for lacing up and heading out
  • Shoe storage below keeps the hallway floor clear
  • Narrow 14-inch depth fits tight entries and mudrooms
  • Moves to the end of a bed just as well
  • Live-edged corners make it furniture, not just storage

It fits real homes.

The 7:15 shuffle

The 7:15 shuffle

Backpacks zipped, one shoe missing, bus in nine minutes. The bench absorbs the school-run scramble every weekday — a seat for the kid fighting a lace, a rack below for the culprits, and the clutter stops here instead of spreading down the hall.

Guests at the door

Guests at the door

Friends arrive for dinner and there is a proper place to sit and slip off their shoes — no hopping on one foot against the wall. A small courtesy they feel without naming, remembered every visit.

The winter row

The winter row

January lines the rack with wet boots in family order, biggest to smallest, snowmelt dripping onto the slatted shelf below. Come spring the boots retire, and the teak seat above looks none the worse for the season.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the length of the seat — the calm figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name. Worn smooth by hand, the live-edged corner never gives up a splinter to the back of a knee.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. An artisan hand-rubs more into the seat and shelf, deepening the gold to a warm satin that shrugs off the winter's drips — and the bench arrives smelling of wood, not of a sprayed coating.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any hardwood, the seat stays flat and solid under daily sitting — no joint racking loose the first year, no seam opening when the furnace dries the hall.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors teak deepens toward amber and only silvers outdoors, under sun and rain. By the door it warms slowly and evenly, and a light sand and re-oil reset the seat where a decade of daily use has polished a favorite spot.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time, after their twenty days in the kiln, and matched by tone across seat and shelf. Twisted or dull stock never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

Seat and shelf are cut slightly proud of the line, keeping the lively natural edge at every corner for the handwork ahead.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Surfaces are sanded through successive grits until the seat edge feels right against the back of a knee, not merely looks right.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker leans full weight on the seat to check joints and level before the bench leaves the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What is a shoe bench built to do?
Shoe benches in this collection are solid wood with a seat rated for a grown adult dropping down to tie laces, plus a slatted shelf below that lets wet shoes drain and dry rather than sit in a puddle.
What widths do you make?
Widths are made to order — a 30-inch bench for a couple's entry, 48 inches for a family mudroom with a shelf per row of shoes. Tell us your hallway and we build to it.
Does it arrive ready to use?
Benches arrive fully assembled and rated conservatively above 300 pounds — no wordless diagrams, no leftover screw. Sitting, standing kids, and dropped gym bags are all within an ordinary day's work.
How do I keep it clean by the door?
Wipe grit off the shelf weekly in winter — trapped sand acts like sandpaper and wears a finish fastest. A damp cloth and a yearly oiling handle everything else; a deeper scuff spot-sands out in minutes.
How is it shipped?
Each shoe bench is made to order, wrapped, corner-protected, and boxed for parcel or light freight. Photograph the box before the driver leaves; tracking is emailed as your order leaves the workshop.
How big is this bench, and can I change the size or finish?
This build measures 32 inches wide, 18 tall, and 14 deep — a comfortable seat for one adult with shoe storage below. Because every bench is made to order, size, paint color, and design details can be customized to your request.
