Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Sculptural bench

The wave the front door needed

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

One continuous curve, doing the work of a bench.

The wave began as a full-scale drawing — how deep a curve can sweep before a seat stops being comfortable. Builders cut the form from thick solid teak, and an artisan fairs the sweep by hand until the line runs clean end to end. It is heavy the way honest wood is heavy — plan on two people, and count that as the spec it is.

Most entry benches are the first flat-pack casualty in the house, racked loose by year two of shoes and sitting. This one takes the daily drop of bodies and boot heels on solid teak and real joinery — no hanger bolts to retighten — and greets everyone who enters with the first evidence of how the rest of the house is built.

  • Two adults can sit while shoes go on and come off
  • Grocery bags and parcels rest here between door and kitchen
  • Wet boots, drips, and winter salt wipe off the oiled seat
  • Solid teak and through-joinery — the shake test finds nothing
  • Reads as sculpture from the door when the hallway rests

It fits real homes.

Seven-forty scramble

Seven-forty scramble

7:40 on a school morning: backpacks land, one kid sits to fight a shoe, the dog leash comes off its hook overhead. The bench takes the whole scramble without a creak and gets straightened exactly never.

The tail sweep

The tail sweep

Weeknights, a 60-pound dog with a confident tail passes the bench twice an evening, and paws hit the seat at every doorbell. Nobody yells — a claw mark spot-sands and re-oils in ten minutes, so this house stopped policing its own animals.

January boots

January boots

Deep January, guests arriving, snow melting off boots onto the seat. They sit, tug, steady a hand on the curve — and the oiled teak beads the drips the way it shed decades of monsoons before it got here.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the full length of the seat, so the wave reads as one calm line — and under winter-dry furnace air the line stays exactly where it was carved.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils; we hand-rub more into the seat and along the curve. Wet gloves and dripping umbrellas bead on the low satin surface instead of soaking in.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, kiln-dried until the moisture meter says done, the bench sits planted — the shake test finds nothing on delivery day or five winters later.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the seat's golden tone only deepens with years of coats and daily sitting. A light sanding and fresh oil renew the whole curve in an afternoon, whenever you choose.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Thick teak stock is pulled and matched by tone and grain across seat and base; boards with twist or checks go back down the stack at the racks.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The wave is traced from full-scale templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the handwork that fairs the sweep against a batten.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The seat and curve are sanded by hand through successive grits, edges eased so the sweep is kind to the backs of knees and bare hands.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker rocks the bench on the shop's flat floor, checks stance and finish, and signs it out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How much weight can a bench hold?
Each bench in this collection is built from thick solid-wood stock with through-joinery — no hanger bolts, no brackets — and comfortably seats two to three adults, conservatively rated well above 500 pounds distributed across the seat.
What wood and finish do you use?
Most benches are solid teak or acacia, hand-sanded and finished with penetrating oil rather than a film — the wood stays warm to the touch, and a scratch spot-sands and re-oils at home in about ten minutes.
Do benches need assembly?
Nearly all benches arrive fully assembled — they come off the truck as benches. A few long designs ship with legs removed to survive transit; those bolt on with the included key in about ten minutes.
How do I keep the seat looking good?
Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry. An entry seat meets boots, bags, and road salt, so refresh the oil once or twice a year — twenty minutes, no professional, no refinishing bill.
How are benches packed for delivery?
Every bench is made to order, wrapped, corner-protected, and boxed or crated by size. Tracking arrives at dispatch; note any crushed corner on the delivery receipt before signing and we handle the rest.
Can the wave bench double as a display piece?
Yes. The seat is one continuous solid-teak surface, so between comings and goings it holds a plant, a stack of books, or nothing at all — the wave form carries the entryway on its own.
