Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Wall lamp sculpture

Knots kept, wired, lit before shipping

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A sculpture that earns its place by lamplight.

The designers kept what most workshops sand away — the knots, the swells, the honest irregularities — and balanced the form so light and shadow trade places across it. The knots are why this board was chosen, not something forgiven. An artisan shapes the silhouette by hand from solid teak, rubs oil into every hollow, wires the lamp complete with its bulb, and runs it lit before it leaves the bench.

A living room without a fireplace can struggle to find its center, and a framed print never quite holds one. On the best wall in the house this piece does what a hearth does — and when the lamp comes on, the curves throw slow shadows up the paint and the room drops a register. You gave it that wall on purpose, and every evening confirms the call.

  • Softens a living room to lamplight after dark
  • Works as carved wall art through the daylight hours
  • Ships fully wired, bulb included — fit your own plug
  • Frees the floor and side tables of lamps
  • Shadows shift with every viewing angle and hour

It fits real homes.

January, four-thirty

January, four-thirty

Minneapolis-dark by late afternoon in deep January, the furnace running steady. You flip the switch on the way past and the room turns amber — knots and hollows in relief, the cold left at the window where it belongs.

Records, Friday, nine

Records, Friday, nine

A record on the stand, two glasses poured, no screens lit anywhere. The lamp throws slow shadows up the wall, the oiled grain holds a low sheen, and the apartment goes quiet in the way only deliberate rooms do.

First nail, new house

First nail, new house

Closing day plus one. Boxes everywhere, nothing unpacked — but the lamp goes up first, one stud and one switch, and the blank wall the sellers left behind starts belonging to somebody. The sofa can wait until the weekend.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain moves through the sculpted body, broken only by the knots the maker chose to keep — in raking lamplight they read like punctuation, not damage, and they drink the oil a shade darker every year.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more across the flowing surface, a warm satin that glows under the lamp — and on nights the window glass goes cold, the wood under your fingertips does not.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any hardwood, the carved form stays true on the wall through furnace winters — its moving finished during three slow weeks in the kiln, not over your sofa.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Left outdoors, teak weathers to a refined silver-grey — a paper-thin surface change. Indoors it deepens slowly toward amber under the bulb's mild warmth; a light sanding and fresh oil bring back the gold in an afternoon, knots included.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Teak is chosen for character here — good knots, live movement in the grain, boards other builds would pass over — while twisted or cracked stock is still turned away at the rack.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The organic silhouette is traced, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — material reserved for the rasps that draw out every swell and hollow by hand.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

The surface is sanded by hand through successive grits until knots sit flush and smooth and every contour feels right against an open palm — the knots checked last, with bare fingertips.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker lights the lamp on the bench, checks the mounting hardware against a level, and signs off before the sculpture ships.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How does the wall lamp mount?
It mounts to a standard wall box, or hangs on a discreet cord to a nearby outlet — the listing says which. The bracket and hardware for your piece are included, most designs land on a single stud, and it arrives ready to hang, not as a bag of parts.
Is it hardwired or plug-in, and who should install it?
The listing states which, and it is confirmed before shipping; the wiring follows US standards and is lit on the workbench before packing, so it ships proven, not presumed. For a hardwired piece, a licensed electrician is the safe way to connect it to the wall box; a plug-in version reaches an outlet on its cord.
What bulb does it take?
The bulb noted on the listing is included and the sculpture arrives fully wired — often a warm Edison or LED. An LED runs cool, which keeps the heat off the oiled grain around the socket.
Will the wood dry out or warp near the bulb?
No. The teak is hand-picked by selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks, then kiln-dried for twenty days at a controlled temperature, so it is done moving before it is shaped — knots and all. The carved form stays true on a dry furnace wall, and a cool LED keeps the warmth off the grain for good.
How does it ship?
Every sculpture is made to order and packed in a foam-fitted box sized to the piece, with the wiring secured. Tracking arrives the day it ships; keep the packaging until the sculpture is on the wall and lit, and if anything arrives damaged we make it right.
