These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

The piece

One log beam, chiseled to carry the evening light.

The idea is plain and the execution is not: one solid teak beam, chosen straight at the stacks and dried through a twenty-day kiln cycle so it hangs true for good, its underside chiseled by hand to house the lighting. It arrives fully wired with the bulb in the box, burned in on the bench before packing.

Most kitchen lighting is a row of interchangeable metal cones aimed at the countertop. This pools warm light exactly where the household actually stands — homework, first coffee, the long end of a dinner party — and by the second week the island is the room's true center. The beam overhead is the reason, and everyone who cooks under it knows it.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the full length of the beam and catches the fixture's own glow each evening — the calm, consistent figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name.

The finish nature applied

Teak's oils and silica meet hand-rubbed coats along every face, and the steam rising off the stove below never troubles it — this wood spent centuries on ship decks before it hung over kitchens.

Density you can feel

About 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with shrinkage roughly half of oak's — the beam hangs straight through dry furnace winters and humid cooking summers alike.

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the beam deepens toward honey-amber rather than silvering — grey takes outdoor sun and rain it will never see. A light sanding and fresh oil restore the gold whenever wanted.

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

One solid beam is chosen for straightness and figure, then dried until the moisture meter reads done. Stock with twist, checks, or dull grain never becomes a fixture.

The shaping process

The beam is shaped and its underside chiseled out by hand to house the integrated lighting channel.

The hand refinement

Faces and ends are sanded by hand through five grits until every surface feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker wires the beam, burns the light in on the bench, and checks it hangs level before packing.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

Questions customers usually ask

Does it mount to the ceiling or the wall?

This is a ceiling pendant. The beam hangs from a canopy fixed over a standard junction box, the cord carrying it below, and all the mounting hardware for the piece is in the box. Center it over the island and the light lands the length of the counter.

Is it hardwired or plug-in?

The listing states which, and it is confirmed before the fixture ships. The wiring is done to US standards. For a hardwired beam, a licensed electrician is the safe way to tie it into the ceiling box — an hour of work for a clean, switch-controlled install over the island.

Does it come with a bulb, and what kind?

Yes. The bulb type is noted on the listing, and the beam ships with the bulb specified — most often a warm Edison or LED seated in the chiseled underside. LED runs cool, so no heat throws down onto the countertop and none rises into the wood.

Can the drop over the island be changed?

The cord can be shortened at installation to hang the beam where you want it, usually 30 to 36 inches above the counter, higher for a tall ceiling. Send your ceiling height and island length before you order and we will cut the beam and set the drop to match.

Will the beam dry out or warp over the stove?

No. The teak is chosen board by board by selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks, then kiln-dried twenty days at a controlled temperature, so it has finished moving before it is ever chiseled. Paired with a cool LED and teak's own oils, it hangs straight and stays golden over the steam of a working kitchen.
