Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Entryway bench

The tree's own edge, inside your door

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

Every day in this house starts and ends at the tree's own edge.

The seat keeps the line the tree grew — the maker reads the slab and lets the edge decide the curves. It is one thick teak board, kiln-dried twenty days so the seat has finished its moving before the first cut, then shaped and faired by hand until the edge asks to be touched.

An entry either has a place to sit or it has a pile of shoes and a morning bottleneck. This bench takes the boots, the grocery bags, the leash-clip wrestle with the dog, and asks only an occasional wipe of oil in return. It is the first thing anyone touches in your house — and it holds up its end of that introduction.

  • Seats two for the shoes-on, shoes-off shuffle
  • Takes wet boots, parcels, and a dropped duffel without flinching
  • Rated well past 500 pounds across the seat
  • Fits a hallway, mudroom, or the end of a bed
  • The live edge makes yours the only one

It fits real homes.

7:40, school day

7:40, school day

Two kids, four shoes, one missing backpack. The bench turns the morning scramble into a seated operation, and everyone is out the door in thirty seconds instead of five arguments.

One heroic trip

One heroic trip

Six grocery bags make it from the car in a single trip and land on the teak instead of the floor, a January draft following them through the door. The thick seat takes the thud and the cold without complaint.

The doorbell dog

The doorbell dog

Sixty pounds of dog hits the entry at every doorbell, paws up on the bench, tail clearing the mail. Nobody yells — small claw marks blend into the patina, and the deeper ones sand out.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the length of the seat, letting the wandering live edge carry all the drama. In raking morning light the edge throws a shadow line the eye follows.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak's own oils, hand-rubbed deeper into seat and edge — a satin that stands up to wet boots and dropped keys, and stays warm to the touch on a February morning.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

Roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with shrinkage about half that of oak — the thick seat stays flat while the front door swings winter air at it all season.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

In a bright entry the seat deepens toward caramel — teak will not silver indoors. A light sanding and fresh oil bring back the first gold whenever you like.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Slabs are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks — figure, soundness, and an edge worth keeping. Twisted stock never becomes a bench.

The shaping process

The shaping process

Legs and curves are traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — spare material for the drawknife work along the live edge.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Seat and edge are sanded by hand through successive grits until the contour feels right against an open palm, not merely looks right.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker loads the seat, checks stance and level on a flat bench, then signs it out of the workshop.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How much weight can a bench hold?
Thick solid-wood stock with through-joinery, comfortably seating two to three adults — conservatively rated well above 500 pounds distributed across the seat. The load lands on wood joined into wood, not on brackets.
What wood and finish do you use?
Most benches are solid teak or acacia, hand-sanded and finished with penetrating oil rather than a film. Oil fails gracefully — a scuff spot-sands and re-oils in ten minutes, where a chipped film means a refinisher.
Do benches need assembly?
Nearly all benches arrive fully assembled. A few long designs ship with legs removed to survive transit; they bolt on with the included key in about ten minutes, holes pre-drilled at the workshop.
How do I keep the seat looking good?
Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry. Entry benches see boots and winter road salt, so refresh the oil once or twice a year, when the seat looks thirsty — a ten-minute rag job, and oil fails gracefully where a chipped film would mean a refinisher.
How are benches packed for delivery?
Made to order, wrapped, corner-protected, and boxed or crated by size. Photograph the packaging before the driver leaves and note anything on the receipt — if the bench arrived hurt, the fix starts from that photo.
Will my bench's live edge match the photos?
Not exactly, and that is the point — the edge follows the individual slab, so contours and figure vary bench to bench. Yours will be recognizably the same design and entirely its own tree.
