Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Sculptural bookshelf

Shelves on one side, sculpture on the other

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

The straight shelves earn their keep; the carved side does the talking.

One side is disciplined — a tall open frame of level teak shelves. The other is a panel carved by hand in flowing, wave-like relief, shaped from joined solid blocks. Solid hardwood shelf to frame, no veneer over the carving; the designer set that contrast on purpose — order for the books, movement for the eye.

Long shelves that bow under a full row of hardcovers are the flat-pack failure everyone has lived with. These join straight into the sides, and the teak dried twenty days in the kiln, so a loaded span stays level for the decades a cheap case would be replaced three times over. Pull a book from the straight side and you pass the carved one — most evenings a hand trails across it on the way.

  • Need real storage? Open shelves hold books, ceramics, frames.
  • Want a focal point? The carved panel reads as sculpture.
  • Corner feeling boxed in? The tall airy frame opens it.
  • Blank office or nook? It anchors the whole room.
  • Kids who climb? An anti-tip strap comes in the box.

It fits real homes.

The call backdrop

The call backdrop

8:58 on a Tuesday, the laptop opens and the shelf fills the frame behind you — spines in rows, the carved panel catching side light. One focal point, no clutter; the call reads calm before anyone has said good morning.

The evening pull

The evening pull

Choosing tonight's book is a standing ritual — a slow scan down the shelves, one spine tipped out with a finger, the reading chair three steps away. Sunday at four, the lamp warm on the oiled grain.

Hands find the curves

Hands find the curves

Guests touch it. Not the books — the carved panel, tracing one groove from shoulder height downward while asking who made it. Every time.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the length of every shelf — the calm figure that lets the carved panel do the talking without visual argument. The straight side stays silent so the sculpted one can speak.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the shelf faces and along every carved ridge, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin that pools shadow in the hollows and leaves no chemical smell behind.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any hardwood, the shelves stay level under a full row of hardcovers even as a dry winter pulls the room's air thin.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

In a bright room the frame tones slowly toward silver-grey — a surface change only, not damage. A light sanding and fresh oil bring the gold back anytime.

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

After twenty days in the kiln, blocks and boards are matched by tone and grain across frame and panel; stock with twist, checks, or dull figure never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The wave relief is traced from templates, then cut slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the carving that gives each curve its profile.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Shelves and carved ridges are sanded by hand through successive grits until every hollow feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks shelf level, joints, and finish before the piece is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the bookshelves constructed?
The bookshelves in this collection are solid teak from shelf to frame, with fixed shelves joined directly into the sides — the construction that keeps long spans from sagging under a full row of hardcovers, where a hanger-bolt flat-pack case would bow within a year.
Can dimensions be adjusted to my wall?
Yes — height, width, and shelf spacing can be adjusted when you order. Measure your wall and ceiling first; we regularly build around baseboards, sloped ceilings, and awkward alcoves.
Should a bookshelf be anchored to the wall?
Taller bookshelves include an anti-tip strap and wall anchor, and we recommend using it, especially with children in the house. The strap installs into one stud in a few minutes.
What care do loaded shelves need?
Dust shelves with a dry cloth and rotate sun-exposed decor occasionally so the wood tones evenly. An annual coat of oil keeps edges and faces rich; a dry forced-air winter may call for it a little sooner.
How does a bookshelf arrive?
Bookshelves are made to order and ship crated, standing on a padded base with the back panel protected. Tracking is provided, and large pieces are delivered by appointment.
Which direction does the carved panel face?
The sculptural panel forms one side of the frame, so its orientation is up to your layout — facing the room's entry is most common. If the carving needs to sit on a specific side, tell us when you order and we build it that way.
