Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Sculptural bookshelf

Loaded with hardcovers, still reads as sculpture

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A bookshelf that reads as sculpture long before you load it.

The designers drew the flowing openings first, then worked out where a full row of hardcovers actually stands. Each bay is solid teak — no veneer to sand through, no particleboard core — bandsawn from boards a thirty-year selector pulled at the lumber stacks, kiln-dried twenty days so the long spans stay true, then rounded by hand and oiled, never lacquered, so the surface renews at home for as long as you own it.

If your last bookcase left on its third move with a FREE sign taped to it, this one is the correction. It arrives whole — no wordless diagrams, no leftover cam lock — stands loaded within the hour, and turns the wall behind you into the part of the room you are quietly proudest of.

  • Will it sag? Fixed solid-teak shelves hold a full hardcover row
  • Room for oversized art books, records, and standing folios
  • Arrives whole — no hardware bag, no lost Saturday
  • Anti-tip strap included; anchors into one stud in minutes
  • Open cut-outs keep a loaded wall from crowding the room

It fits real homes.

The 8:58 backdrop

The 8:58 backdrop

Tuesday, 8:58, camera on in two minutes. The staggered teak bays read calm behind you — one trailing plant, a row of spines, nothing to tidy — and a coworker asks about the grain before the agenda even loads.

Fourth-apartment anchor

Fourth-apartment anchor

Move-in day, lease four in six years, landlord-beige walls once more. The teak shelf goes up before the couch, books out of boxes by dark, and the place starts being yours while the router still blinks orange.

Rearranging Saturday

Rearranging Saturday

A slow Saturday in February, snow on the sill. Novels regrouped, the ceramic bowl shifted two bays left, the low openings handed over to picture books a four-year-old can reach. The curves make even the toddler's shelf look deliberate.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Straight, tight grain runs the length of every shelf face, so even a loaded wall reads calm. Under a warm lamp the oiled surface holds a low sheen, not a glare — you see wood, never reflection.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak's own oils are the base coat; we hand-rub more in until the faces feel like worn sea glass under a fingertip. It arrives smelling faintly of wood and leather, not a factory — there is no lacquer film to off-gas.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, a shelf this long stays flat under a full run of hardcovers — and because every board spent twenty days in a temperature-controlled kiln, it holds that line when forced-air heat drops the room bone-dry in January.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors this teak will not silver — it deepens toward caramel, fastest on a shelf near a south window. If you ever want year-one gold back, a light sanding and fresh oil reset the whole form in an afternoon.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks and matched by tone across the bays. Stock with twist or dull figure never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The flowing openings are traced from workshop templates, then bandsawn an eighth of an inch proud of the line — material saved for the handwork on every curve.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Rounded edges and cut-outs are sanded through five grits, the last pass checked by fingertip in raking light, until they feel right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks level, shelf spacing against a straightedge, and finish before sign-out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the bookshelves constructed?
Solid teak from shelf to frame — no veneer, no MDF core anywhere — with fixed shelves joined directly into the sides. That is why long spans hold a loaded row for decades, and why the surface can be sanded and re-oiled instead of replaced.
Can dimensions be adjusted to my wall?
Yes — height, width, and shelf spacing are set when you order, because each shelf is built after you buy it. Measure your wall, ceiling, and baseboard first; we regularly build around sloped ceilings and awkward alcoves.
Should a bookshelf be anchored to the wall?
Yes, and taller bookshelves include the anti-tip strap and wall anchor to do it. The strap installs into one stud in a few minutes — with children in the house we consider it part of the furniture, not an accessory.
What care do loaded shelves need?
Dust with a dry cloth and rotate sun-facing decor so the tone deepens evenly. Keep the shelf at least two feet from a heat vent in winter — the wood finished its moving in the kiln, but even stable teak prefers even conditions — and oil the faces once a year, ten minutes, no professional.
How does a bookshelf arrive?
Made to order, crated standing on a padded base with the back panel protected, and delivered by appointment for large builds. Photograph the crate before the driver leaves and note anything on the receipt — if transit does damage, we make it right.
Do the curved openings limit what fits on the shelves?
Less than photos suggest. The bays are sized around standard hardcovers and trade paperbacks, with several taller openings for art books, records, or a plant. Tell us what you shelve and we bias the bay heights your way.
