Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Bookshelf

Mirrored curves that carry full shelves

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

Storage drawn with a sculptor's patience.

The designers balanced curve against curve until the whole shelf reads as one gesture; the workshop makes the gesture solid. Artisans join blocks of teak — kiln-dried twenty slow days at controlled temperature, so the wood finishes its moving before the first cut — then shape and sand each arc by hand until the mirrored bays line up under a straightedge. Joined blocks, said plainly: the seams are structure, not disguise.

Anyone on their second particleboard bookcase knows the arc of that story: shelf sag in year one, the lean in year two, the curb in year three. Solid teak shelves joined into solid sides do not follow it. Load the bays with hardcovers and vinyl, step back, and the room has its landmark — one the owner will not be replacing, only dusting.

  • Full rows of hardcovers ride solid teak shelves that do not sag
  • Mirrored bays look finished from every seat in the room
  • Centers on a wall or anchors an office corner equally well
  • Bolts together in about twenty minutes, hardware and key included

It fits real homes.

The bedtime pick

The bedtime pick

Picture books fill the low bays at exactly a four-year-old's reach. The 7:30 deliberation over tonight's story runs longer than the story itself, and the shelf takes the nightly pawing — small fingers, board-book corners — without a mark that matters.

Sunday reshelving

Sunday reshelving

Sunday afternoon. A finished novel slides into its slot along the upper curve, spine squared with its neighbors, the oiled teak edge smooth under the wrist — the small ceremony that closes a good book and resets the week.

July 31st

July 31st

The busiest moving day in America. The particleboard bookcase stays at the curb with a FREE sign; the teak shelf gets blanket-wrapped and carried down the ramp by two movers who grip it like it matters, because it does.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain follows every curved shelf face, and in low afternoon sun the mirrored arcs throw soft, symmetrical shadows across the wall — the figure stays calm to the eye even when every bay is full.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils; we hand-rub more into every face and arc. Unbox it and the scent is faintly sweet and leathery — real teak's signature, the smell wood-ID guides use as an authenticity test — with no lacquer film to off-gas.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with about half the seasonal movement of oak, these shelves stay flat under full rows of books. It is the winter-summer humidity swing that kills lesser bookcases — and this wood already did its moving in the kiln.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the shelf will not silver — that takes outdoor UV and rain. It deepens toward honey-amber instead; keep it a couple of feet from heat vents and rotate sun-facing decor so the tone stays even from top bay to bottom.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Selectors with thirty years at the lumber stacks pull teak blocks and match them by tone and grain so the mirrored halves read as one — the pairing chalked on each block before a single cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The symmetrical curves are traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — a pencil's width of spare material left for the handwork that trues each arc against its twin.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Shelf faces and inner curves are sanded by hand through five successively finer grits, the final pass checked by fingertip under a raking light, until every arc feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks the mirrored bays against a straightedge, confirms level and finish, and signs the bookshelf out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the bookshelves constructed?
The bookshelves in this collection are solid hardwood from shelf to frame, with fixed shelves joined directly into the sides — the construction that keeps long spans from sagging under a full row of hardcovers. No veneer, no MDF, no particleboard anywhere in the piece.
Can dimensions be adjusted to my wall?
Yes — height, width, and shelf spacing can be adjusted when you order, because every shelf is made to order. Measure your wall, ceiling, and narrowest doorway first; we regularly build around baseboards, sloped ceilings, and awkward alcoves.
Should a bookshelf be anchored to the wall?
Taller bookshelves include an anti-tip strap and wall anchor, and we recommend using it, especially with children in the house. The strap installs into one stud in a few minutes — one small screw hole, not a wall of them.
What care do loaded shelves need?
Dust with a dry cloth, keep the shelf a couple of feet from heat vents, and rotate sun-exposed decor so the teak tones evenly. If you run a winter humidifier, 40 to 55 percent is the range wood likes. A yearly wipe of oil keeps edges rich — ten minutes with a rag, no refinisher.
How does a bookshelf arrive?
Bookshelves are made to order and ship crated, standing on a padded base with the back panel protected. Photograph the crate before the driver leaves and note anything on the receipt; tracking is provided, and large pieces are delivered by appointment.
Does this design require assembly?
Yes — and we say so plainly. This bookshelf is built from solid teak sections that separate for safe transport, then bolt back together with the included hardware and key: about twenty minutes for one person, no extra tools, no wordless diagrams, no leftover screw.
