Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Wall shelf

Tiers that branch from one spine

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A wall shelf built the way a tree builds itself.

The designers ran a central spine up the wall and let the tiers branch from it, staggered so each level keeps its own air. An artisan grain-matches solid teak across spine and tiers — no veneer wrapped over a hollow box, nothing to sag by year three — shapes every joint by hand, and oils the form to a soft mid-century glow.

A blank living-room wall usually gets filled with flat-pack cubes that bow under a row of hardcovers within a couple of winters. This one is cut from graded heartwood and holds its line under a fully loaded tier, and because teak was the credenza wood of the 1960s, the piece reads as legacy the day it goes up — the shelf you keep long after the sofa gets replaced.

  • Staggered tiers give every book and vase its own breathing room
  • Central spine carries real book-weight, not just a styled look
  • Holds books, ceramics, trailing plants, and framed photos at once
  • Mid-century proportions sit right beside walnut-era and modern furniture
  • One mounting job composes a whole blank wall

It fits real homes.

Friday, records out

Friday, records out

Friday, 9 pm, no screens on. A stack of records leans on the middle tier, two glasses catch the lamplight, and the low sheen of oiled grain warms the whole corner. The apartment goes quiet in the way only a room arranged on purpose can.

New-place first hang

New-place first hang

August, boxes still stacked in the garage, the sofa two weeks out. The shelf goes up before anything else — a paper template, two studs, fifteen minutes — and one wall suddenly says the place is owned, not just a truck rented for the weekend.

Downsize dibs

Downsize dibs

A smaller condo after thirty years in the house. The truck took half of what the old rooms held, but the teak shelf made the cut and now carries the ceramics that mattered most. One of the kids has already called dibs on it for someday.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs up the central spine and out along each tier — the calm, consistent figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the tier faces and rounded edges, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin that never feels like plastic.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with shrinkage among the lowest of any hardwood, the tiers hold their line under a full run of books while forced-air heat dries the room into the twenties each winter.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Mounted indoors, this shelf will not silver — the grey patina needs outdoor UV and rain together. Inside, the tone deepens toward honey-amber over the years, a shade warmer on a sun-facing wall, and a light sanding with fresh oil brings spine and tiers back to gold anytime.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time and grain-matched from spine to tier tips. Twisted or dull stock never makes the composition.

The shaping process

The shaping process

Spine and tiers are traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the handwork on every curve.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Tier edges and the spine are sanded through successive grits until each transition feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker checks joints, level, and mounting points before the shelf is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

What are the shelves and brackets made of?
Each wall-mounted shelf here is solid hardwood with its bracket system chosen for the design — exposed steel on workshop styles, fully hidden on minimal ones — never a veneer over a hollow box.
Can I order a full set for one wall?
Lengths, depths, and bracket finishes are all made to order. Outfitting a pantry, an office wall, or one long living-room run? We cut each shelf to your list.
How difficult is installation?
All mounting hardware ships in the box with a paper drilling template. Find studs for book loads; use the supplied heavy-duty anchors elsewhere. Most installs take fifteen minutes.
What care keeps them looking new?
Dust regularly and oil the exposed faces once a year. If a shelf carries kitchen duty, wipe cooking film off monthly with a barely damp cloth and dry.
How do they arrive?
Each shelf is made to order and packed flat with corner guards, hardware bagged and taped to the shelf back. Tracking is emailed the day it ships, and if anything arrives dinged, photograph the packaging and write support@timbervintique.com — we make it right.
Will it suit a room that isn't strictly mid-century?
Yes. The mid-century character lives in the proportions and soft curves, not a costume. It sits comfortably beside contemporary sofas and older family pieces alike — teak's golden tone warms both directions.
