Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Floor lamp

Sculpture by day, lamplight by night

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A lamp that stands like sculpture even switched off.

The base is the work: layered teak, carved back ridge by ridge with gouges until the silhouette holds from every angle in the room. It is solid wood through — no resin casting, no veneer wrap — so every ridge is cut, not molded, and every shadow line is a tool mark somebody chose to leave.

Most living rooms are lit from the ceiling and feel like it after dark. This lamp brings the light down to chair height, filtered warm through fabric, and spends its daylight hours as a standing carving. The blank dried twenty days in a controlled kiln before the first gouge, so the deep ridges hold crisp instead of checking when the heat comes on.

  • Fabric shade throws soft, glare-free light for reading chairs
  • Carved teak base earns its floor space even switched off
  • Planted, weighted stance shrugs off passing kids and dogs
  • Warm low light suits movie nights and late conversations
  • Arrives wired with bulb — add a plug for your outlet

It fits real homes.

The reading corner

The reading corner

Sunday, 4 pm, one chair by the window and the lamp beside it. Tea within reach, phone in another room, a full hour inside a single circle of warm light — the most defended square yard in the house.

Movie night, lights low

Movie night, lights low

Friday, overheads dark, the lamp on low behind the sofa. A soft glow through fabric keeps the popcorn findable without washing out the screen, and the carved base throws slow shadows through the credits.

The slow walk past

The slow walk past

New guests almost always stop at the base, crouch a little, and trace one carved ridge with a finger. Then comes the question every hand-cut piece earns — who made this — and the owner takes their time answering.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain carries through the carved layers, so each ridge shows a clean edge of figure. In afternoon sun the ridges throw fine shadow lines that move across the floor by the hour.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak's own oils meet hand-rubbed coats worked into every hollow of the carving. At night the satin surface catches the lamplight; lean in by day and it smells faintly of wood, never of lacquer.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, the base stands planted — no sway when the dog brushes past — and twenty days in the kiln settled the blank before the first gouge, so teak's low shrinkage keeps the carved ridges crisp through radiator winters.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the carving deepens toward honey with the years rather than silvering — that takes outdoor sun and rain. If a bright window lightens the sun-facing side, give the lamp a quarter turn each season.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Base blanks are pulled one at a time by selectors with thirty years at the stacks — dense, even stock that will carry deep carving without tearing at the gouge.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The layered form is roughed out from templates, then carved slightly proud of the line, the gouge always following the grain downhill so every ridge cuts clean.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Each carved ridge is sanded through five grits, by hand into every hollow, until the whole base reads smooth under a slow, open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker wires and tests the lamp, checks the stance on a flat bench, and fits the shade before it is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the lamps made and wired?
Each lamp base is carved from solid teak and wired with UL-listed components for US outlets. The carving is cut, not cast — which is why no two bases are identical, and why the grain runs through every ridge instead of stopping at a surface.
Can I adjust the height or shade?
Base height and shade pairing can be adjusted when you order — a taller build to stand behind a sofa, a shorter one beside a reading chair. Tell us the spot and the chair, and we match the proportions.
What bulb does it take?
The floor lamp arrives fully wired with its bulb included, and the fabric shade seats without tools. A power plug is not included — you attach a plug matched to your local outlet before first use, a five-minute screwdriver job or a quick stop for your electrician.
Any care advice?
Dust the carved ridges with a dry cloth or soft brush — grit left in the hollows acts like sandpaper underfoot traffic. A wipe of oil once a year keeps the base rich; the fabric shade needs only an occasional pass with a vacuum brush head.
How do lamps ship?
Every lamp is made to order and packed in a foam-fitted box, the shade boxed separately. Tracking is sent the day it ships — photograph the carton before opening if anything looks crushed, and we make it right.
