Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Solid teak · Bench

Architecture you can sit on.

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A bench that works as seat, stage, and sculpture.

Deep carved cutouts give the profile an architectural rhythm while thick solid teak keeps it a working seat — no hollow forms, no filler, just heavy stock you feel the moment two people lift it. Our designers drew the openings to balance mass and shadow; the artisan cuts the voids and hand-sands every inside curve.

Extra seating usually means a folding chair from the closet or a flat-pack bench gone loose by spring. This one arrives as a single finished piece — teak dried twenty days in a controlled kiln, so the carved profile stays rigid through furnace season — and it holds two adults, a stack of art books, or the window light, whichever the room needs that week.

  • Seats two adults when the sofa fills
  • Low profile keeps sightlines open across the room
  • Doubles as display for books and objects between guests
  • Arrives as one finished piece — nothing to bolt
  • Oiled teak shrugs off boots, paws, and drink rings

It fits real homes.

Fourth-quarter overflow

Fourth-quarter overflow

Super Bowl Sunday, the sofa full by kickoff. Two more friends land on the carved bench with the seven-layer dip between them, and Monday morning the rings wipe off the oiled teak.

The window ledge

The window ledge

August afternoon under the living-room window: a kid and a comic sprawled along the seat, sun cutting shapes through the carved openings onto the floor until dinner.

Doorbell traffic

Doorbell traffic

Weeknight, a 60-pound dog with a confident tail on patrol. Paws hit the bench at every doorbell and nobody yells — a claw mark spot-sands out with a rag of oil in ten minutes.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight grain runs the length of the seat and dives cleanly through every cutout — and when the afternoon sun rakes the openings, the figure inside the curves lights up first.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the seat and the inside faces of each carving until the wood holds a low satin and sits warm under bare legs.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

Two people lift it and grin at the weight — the knuckle-tap finds nothing hollow anywhere — and with shrinkage about half that of oak, the carved profile stays rigid from humid August to furnace-dry February.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Outdoors teak silvers; in the living room it only deepens. Either way the change is paper-thin — a light sanding and fresh oil return the gold over one slow morning.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Thick boards are pulled one at a time and matched by tone and grain along the seat — graded by selectors with thirty years at the stacks. Stock with twist or checks never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The carved openings are traced from templates, then cut slightly proud of the pencil line, leaving material for the handwork that trues each void.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Seat and inside curves are sanded by hand through five grits until every edge of the carving feels right against an open palm.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker sets the bench on a flat reference surface and checks stance, level, and finish before it is signed out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How much weight can a bench hold?
Each bench in this collection is built from thick solid-wood stock with through-joinery, comfortably seating two to three adults — conservatively rated well above 500 pounds distributed across the seat. Weight is the spec that tells you it is not hollow.
What wood and finish do you use?
Most benches are solid teak or acacia, hand-sanded and finished with penetrating oil rather than a film. The difference shows at the first scratch: a film chips and needs a refinisher; oil spot-sands and re-wipes at home in ten minutes.
Do benches need assembly?
Nearly all benches arrive fully assembled. A few long designs ship with legs removed to survive transit; they bolt on with the included key in about ten minutes — no wordless diagrams, no leftover hardware.
How do I keep the seat looking good?
Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry. Entryway benches take boots and bags, so refresh the oil once or twice a year — and keep the piece a couple of feet from heat vents through the winter.
How are benches packed for delivery?
Every bench is made to order, wrapped, corner-protected, and boxed or crated by size. Photograph the carton before the driver leaves and note any damage on the receipt — if something got through, we make it right.
Do the carved cutouts weaken the seat?
No. The openings are drawn so load still travels through continuous thick teak, and the piece is built as one sculptural mass rather than thin panels. It sits, holds, and displays like any solid bench — the carving is where the light gets in.
