Natural wood, one piece at a time

Wood grain, knots, edge contours, and color naturally vary from piece to piece. Product images show the expected character rather than an identical grain pattern.

General care

These products are not waterproof. Their durable wood-and-finish construction is designed to handle ordinary accidental spills when liquid is wiped up promptly. Avoid standing water, soaking, submersion, and harsh cleaners.

Dimensions & assembly

Exact dimensions for each size are listed on the option you select above. Most pieces arrive fully assembled; wall-mounted designs include hardware and a template. Measure doorways and stair turns before ordering — most pieces pass a standard 32-inch doorway.

Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth and oil the grain once or twice a year to keep the surface nourished.

Shipping & returns

Your piece ships free in a protective wooden crate. Freight delivery comes with a scheduled window and tracking; white-glove service — carried inside, placed, packaging removed — is available at checkout.

Returns: 30 days from payment. Pieces need to be unused and in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup and walk you through repacking. Damaged or defective on arrival? We repair, replace or refund at no cost. Made-to-order pieces can be changed or cancelled while the build has not started.

Shelves that hold hardcovers without sagging

The piece

Plate I
Plate II

A bookshelf where the spaces between shelves matter as much as the books.

The designers composed this piece the way a sculptor blocks a form — asymmetric openings balanced against solid teak, each tier placed where the eye wants to rest. An artisan selects boards dried twenty days in the kiln, shapes the flowing frame by hand, and joins every shelf directly into the sides so it sits dead level and stays there under load.

A flat-pack shelf bows within a year under a full row of hardcovers, and the printed edge chips to show the particleboard underneath. Solid teak spans do not creep — load them wall to wall with books and they hold their line for decades. Filled with what you actually read, it becomes the wall the room organizes itself around, and the piece you are quietly glad you bought once.

  • Open tiers hold books, framed photos, and plants together
  • Asymmetric openings break up a flat wall of spines
  • Solid teak shelves carry full hardcover rows without sagging
  • Stands freestanding in a living room or home office
  • Low tiers put children's books within children's reach

It fits real homes.

The bedtime shelf

The bedtime shelf

Two picture books slide off the low shelf on the way to bed — kept there on purpose, at exactly the height a four-year-old can reach without asking. The taller tiers hold the grown-up books she will grow into over the next fifteen years.

Saturday reshuffle

Saturday reshuffle

Saturday morning: novels regrouped on a whim, a ceramic bowl moved two tiers up, the pothos given the open corner where the light lands. An hour disappears rearranging the shelves, and the whole room looks new for the cost of nothing.

On every call

On every call

8:58 on a Tuesday, the laptop opens and the shelf sits over your shoulder on camera — one calm focal point, no clutter. At least once a week a new face joins the call and asks about the curved bookshelf before the agenda starts.

Teak, up close.

Grain that reads quiet

Tight, straight, even grain runs the length of every shelf face and up the curved frame — the calm, consistent figure that made teak the wood collectors ask for by name, quietly at home behind rows of mismatched spines.

Grain that reads quiet

The finish nature applied

Teak carries its own natural oils. We hand-rub more into the shelf faces and the flowing frame, deepening the golden tone to a warm satin that warms a room of cool white walls rather than reading like plastic.

The finish nature applied

Density you can feel

At roughly 700 kilograms per cubic meter, with some of the lowest shrinkage of any hardwood, the shelves stay level under full rows of hardcovers through humid summers and furnace-dried winters alike.

Density you can feel

Golden now, silver whenever

Indoors the gold only deepens. If a window tones one side faster over the years, a light sanding and fresh oil even the whole frame out again in an afternoon.

Golden now, silver whenever

From plank to piece.

The wood selection

The wood selection

Boards are pulled one at a time and matched by tone across frame and shelves, so a tall piece reads as one tree rather than a patchwork. Twisted or dull stock never makes the cut.

The shaping process

The shaping process

The flowing frame is traced from templates, then bandsawn slightly proud of the line — leaving material for the spokeshave and rasp work on every curve.

The hand refinement

The hand refinement

Shelf edges and the frame's curves are sanded through successive grits until they feel right against an open palm, not merely look right.

The final inspection

The final inspection

Oil goes on in thin coats, buffed between each. The maker loads and checks every shelf for level before signing the piece out.

One maker follows each piece from rough plank to the final coat of oil, and signs off before it is crated.

The Timber Vintique workshop

No two boards alike

The grain that arrives is yours alone.

  1. Every board is cut from a different tree — the photos here are a reference, not a promise.
  2. Your piece is photographed in the workshop before it ships, so you see your exact grain.
  3. Small knots and mineral streaks come with real wood. We leave them in.

Delivery, done properly.

White-glove option

Choose white-glove and the crew brings the piece inside, places it in the room, and removes every bit of packaging.

Crated for freight

Each piece travels in its own wooden crate with corner protection, built to cross the country without a scuff.

Scheduled window

You get a delivery appointment and tracking — not a truck that shows up unannounced.

Honest returns

30 days from payment. If it isn't right — unused, in original condition — we arrange the freight pickup. Made-to-order terms are stated up front.

Questions customers usually ask

How are the bookshelves constructed?
The bookshelves in this collection are solid teak from shelf to frame, with shelves joined directly into the sides — the construction that keeps a long span from bowing under a full row of hardcovers. There is no particleboard core to creep, so the line you hang it at is the line it keeps.
Can dimensions be adjusted to my wall?
Yes — height, width, and shelf spacing all adjust when you order. Measure your wall and ceiling first; we regularly build around baseboards, sloped ceilings, and awkward alcoves, since the piece is cut to your numbers rather than a stock size.
Should a bookshelf be anchored to the wall?
Taller bookshelves include an anti-tip strap and wall anchor, and we recommend using it, especially with children in the house. The strap installs into one stud in a few minutes and disappears behind the top shelf.
What care do loaded shelves need?
Dust shelves with a dry cloth and rotate sun-exposed decor occasionally so the wood tones evenly. An annual coat of oil keeps edges and faces rich over the years, and a scuff on an open edge spot-sands out at home.
How does a bookshelf arrive?
Bookshelves are made to order and ship crated, standing on a padded base with the back panel protected. Tracking is provided, large pieces are delivered by appointment, and you should note any crate damage on the receipt before signing.
How should I style the asymmetrical open shelves?
Mix rows of books with breathing room — a bowl, a plant, a framed photo — and let one or two openings stay empty. The curved frame is part of the composition, so unlike a straight bookcase, it looks finished even before every shelf is full.
